  • anyone got those new micosoft strategic like mice?

The intention is that they are used for FPS games. The top bit moves around (so you can use it instead of WASD).

I don't think it's actually been released yet, but I know that I want one when they are!

Edit - Erm, oops, they are available.

Yeah but in my experience, when dabs say that '1751 available' they mean '1751 in the country, we might get one in a few weeks'

Ot am I just terribly cynical?

If you're buying in the uk, may I suggest you get some other stuff and buy from the gb buy.com site, using this voucher (if it still works):

    Very worthwhile.

They're not for FPS games. It's a left-hand controller, to sit on the opposite side of your keyboard from the mouse, and has lots of macro buttons but... well... isn't for FPS's. Not to say you couldn't set it up for Q3, but...

To elaborate on Gurm's reply, they're designed for real-time strategy games. I checked them out (in US), and they seem like a great idea for rts games, but I don't play many of these.

You guys are right, it is meant primarily for RTS games, but is should work well for FPS, too, since it would allow you to have ALL of your buttons (quick keys for weapons, messages, etc-> 18) as well as full movement (it moves all four primary directions, as well as having a twist axis). Not that I want one- it'd take me too long to get used to now that I've been playing kb/mouse so long.

Not only that, Ace, but I'll wait to hear how responsive it is. It seems like the macros might be kinda... well... slow.

We'll see, though. Anyone got a link to a review? I couldn't find one offhand.

That's entirely possible too, Gurm. I just got an MS Sidewinder Game Voice, and while I really like it, the voice command function (with preprogrammed settings for several games, including my fav- UT) seems to lag in its reaction time. For instance, when I tell it to select a certain weapon in UT, it seems to take maybe 2 seconds for the weapon to actually come up. I've found it faster just to stick with the keyboard for that and use the GV for its primary function- multichannel I/O, which is where it rules!
