  • How much faster is a G400 MAX vs. G400 non-MAX?

I bought a non-MAX 32 MB dualhead card last year. I was wondering how much faster is a MAX 32 MB dualhead card in 2D and 3D (i.e. games) in Windows 98 and on an Intel Pentium III 600 Mhz (Katami; 100 Mhz bus speed)?

I hope I am not missing too much speed with a non-MAX card . I look forward to receiving replies soon.

dood, don't be fooled they go exactly at the same speed... Of course thats if you've oc'd ur reg G400

just get mga tweak and check it out for yourself! (MGA Tweak version 1.20 563KB)

Or you can try Matrox Tweak Utility 1.12 which is a bit less powerfull but easier to use

You even have a dedicated forum section for MGA Tweak!!! How cool is that!!!

    found here <A HREF="http://matroxusers.com/Utils.html">Utilities</A> =)

    Have fun!!

[edit] grrr stupid link work damn you!!!

GirgleMirt: I don't like overclocking my hardware since it degrades my hardware faster. I am not an OC type of person.

Okay, let's get this straight. No overclocking involved when comparing! >

How much faster? 50% faster than a vanilla G400 32 MB DualHead?

At 1024x768 and lower they are about the same.
1280x1024 and up, Max is faster. The higher the resolution, the bigger the gap.

Actually you can start to notice the difference around 1024 32bit in games like q3a and UT in my experience.

Here's the thing. When I play games, I play at 1024x768 32-bit colors. I can do 1280x1024, but man... I can't read the tiny texts on my 17" monitor (it can't go higher than that resolution)!

For regular Windows desktop, I use 1280x1024 32-bit colors.

Rags: When you said you can notice the difference. How much difference? 10%? BTW, my upgraded system kicks butt hehe.

For me it was more like 25 percent, which may be due to my G400 having only 16MB of ram.

I read somewhere in a review that the difference between the two vanillas, the 16mb and the 32mb is very small (In 3D speed, at least at 1024x768 and below).
