  • Distortion on quake3 map.

I can't show it here since I have no website.
I have a .JPG file that show the distortion and I have circled the spot. It's a minor distortion but it's still there it's been there most of the year. This is with the g400 using the latest certified drivers.
If anyone is willing to take a look and tell me how to correct the problem or confirm it's a matrox OpenGL bug then email me at kairo@mediaone.net

It's better for me to show the image.
I spent 30 minutes using photoshop pro
to convert it and for me to circle the
distortion effect. But if you need to know
      my machine.

      256MB FCPGA 733 cpu.
      G400 millennium.
Asus CUSL2 (best I815E board out there )

Just to let you know this problem happened
on my older machine a Aopen BX board
      using a 700 slot 1 cpu.

Like I said without me showing you the
image this is just a waste of time.

            Galvin,

I am using the latest internal betas, and do not see this problem at all. Can you give me your exact settings so I can see if this is fixed or not?

Everything is 16bit set in the game.

Graphic settings in the game are this:
              GL extension: on
              Videomode: 800x600
              Coloer Depth: 16bit
              Full Screen: on
              Lighting: lightmap
              Geometric detail: high
              Texter detail: max
              Texture quality: 16bit
              Texture filter: biliner

              Video card settings:

              Fade-in PowerDesk dialog boxes
              Fade-out PowerDesk dialog boxes
Start Matrox QuickDesk when Windows Restarts
Show Matrox QuickDesk icon on taskbar

Use Bus mastering (a must have or the card crawls)
Use hardware to draw color mouse pointer.

Windows 2000 with service pack 1
              The problem existed before SP1
ACPI enabled (and I won't disable this, it works fine)

I use 16bit because 32 bit takes too
much of a performance hit on my p3-733 cpu.
By the way this defect existed for quite
some times like months on previous version
of the drivers. In motion it almost looks
like glossy mirror of somesort, but you
have to move along the path or you won't
see it. I have seen this bug on a BX chipset
as well as my I815E chipset.

With your settings, I see the same problem. Try 32bit textures, you won't see a huge decrease in performance (I run the same cpu as you, and a slower card than you), but for me I don't see it unless 16 bit textures are used. I will test some more to see what comes up.

                Take care,

BTW, that was using the latest betas that are PUBLICLY available. I will see if it's still there in the latest INTERNAL betas.

Ok thanks, I still think 32bit textures
takes a lot of a hit I play large multi
player games sometimes, and slowdown is
                    not good in intense games

                      Hi Galvin,

You may want to limit your FPS to 25-35 depending on your connection, and your need for smoothness. I find that I get NO slowdowns in heavy battles if using 800X600, 16 bit color, 32bit textures, bilinear filtering, Geometric detail on high, lightmap, and texture slider down one notch from the right. I have my multiplayer FPS stuck at 40, and don't get any slowdowns at all.

Depends on the map, some textures work fast
on the G400 others don't. But anyways the difference between 32bit and 16bit textures is 10fps, that's a lot when you have 8 player games going on and on some maps that will crawl to 15 to 20fps easy.

I get a lot of weird texture problems in q3a... most of the problems are textures that just flicker when walking past them...

with the 5.06 and earlier drivers, I did not see this problem at all.... with the 5.10 and 5.11 this problem showed up for the first time, and with the 5.14, it is very bad

But since they fixed a lot of other problems with the 5.14, they can now focus on fixing this
