  • Falcon4 and EAW and Roger Wilco and Matrox G400 Marvel

    hello,
I am having some real problems where my Falcon4 stops working and something is wacking it so I have to re-install it, after I run Eaw and/or Raoger Wilco. They should not have any bad effects on each other. I am not sure if Directx is getting wacked, my Video card drivers getting wacked, Roger Wilco wacking something. I have al the latest and greatest versions and drivers for everything.
I install and run F4 and it runs good. But if I go run EAW and I come back to F4 it starts with a garbled menu screen and will not let me setup and start the game. I try to re-install Directx and that doens't fix it, and even try the mscrt.dll file that can be swapped out for the newer version. I have Falcon4 with the 1.08US patch and I can run Joels Patch and also iBeta Realism patch V3.0 and all those work. it is only when I go run other applications where it gets wacked and I have to re-install it.
Anyone know what could be causing this, what could the conflicts be. rebooting alone does not fix it. Sometimes I can re-instal Directx and it fixes it. I suspect that the Matrox Marvel G400 could play a big role in the problem and Matrox cards and drivers sometimes have lots of problems with games and drivers.
Thanx for any info that might help me and others.

There are some threads about 'netMeeting' program that has problems and disables D#D. There are some threads here in this forum in gaming about this: http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/Forum4/HTML/004163.html
    -------
Maybe this is my problem or part of it I have netmeeting installed. i will take it out and see what happens. I have not even been using netmeeting in months but will try uninstalling it to see if it helps anyway.

Tired of the war of trying to get Falcon 4 to stay running without problems. It runs once or twice after installing it, then it only plays the movie at the beginning then goes to the menu screen with garbage and only partial menu items are clickable. yes, I have all the latest and greatest files, drivers, etc, etc. Just that the Matrox Marvel G400, AGP, Directx, D3D, all seems to stumble with the matrox Marvel card. Is matrox working on more new drivers to get these bugs out of have we seen the last? matrox, tell us why these items do not work right, tell us if there is some reason why these bugs are not fixed, tell us if you are or not going to remove the bugs, and please be more technical, better to be too much than not enough.

I dumped the 5.55 drivers and installed the 5.41 drivers and the 1.52 video tools. I really do not think that solved the problem. The thing is I really like my Marvel G400 but really pisses me off when I cannot run a game or application that is a year or 2 old. Just annoying as hell. I hope that Directx 8 will be helpful, but have read from beta testers that it isn't great or anything. Not much else I can hope for to run Falcon 4 unless some new drivers come along that fix these problems. As an all in one card and for making videos and doing lots of cool stuff, great 2D, and some really good 3D, it would be down to say a5 on the list for people that play lots of games. I play flight sims and hope that it doens't give me problems on CFS2 that I will be playing in a few eeks and other games in the future, for the next 2 years at least. meanwhile I can still fly EAW with no problems and tons of other applications. Just wish this Falcon f would work all the time instead of trying to get it to work after playing with it and praying, wishing, and cussing.

After some more work, it appears that the Saitek joystick X36 USB Combo even with the latest 1.4G software still has setup issues that can cause video problems. I disabled the Rotary Dails on the X35T part of the Combo through the setup software and that helps quite a bit. But, I stil have problems of getting a messed up screen and sometimes have to make several attempts at starting the game to get a menu that works. It still gets wacked in a spot where the D3D is active with the garbage on the screen and I have to close al that out with a 3 fingered salute (CTRL-ALT-ESC) and then close the game and D3D and try until I get a menu that works. Either way the drivers are wacked with Falcon4 with a Marvel G400, Directx 7.a and D3D and the current software for the Saitek X36 USB joystick. The combination does not always get along together. Teh joystick is very nice but it has to be programmed right for it to work right. But, like a said, there are lots of people that cannot run some games and just totally gave up.
