  • G400 Max and Half-life issues, Hmmmm

Ok well i have heard a lot of bad stuff about the G400 millenium Max when running HL.
I experience decent frame rates (around 48-80), however when in a fight my fps drop to a rediculous low of 15-20. further- it seems to make no diffrence what resolution i am in....its the same at 640 as it is at 1024. Why the hell is this? Btw- at this time my ping is around 40-60 on dual ISDN, so it is not my bandwidth or lagggg that is to blame i am certain of that much. SYSTEM=

I play CS alot and i did notice that it doesn't make any difference playing 640 or 1024. I play at 1024 and get fps 30 to 70 (depending on situation/map). When in heavy fights mayby the frames drop a little bit (but never lower than 30), but i'm just too busy fragging so i really don't notice it

Just curious do you play with eax on? I have an diamond MX300 soundcard (A3D) and i don't use A3D because the frames do drop in an heavy fight situation when it's enabled (but i think that's because my cpu can't handle it)

I know in CS there are some settings like
    max_shells
    max_smokepuffs
and lowering these two will increase fps (especially in fight situations, you'll see less puffs and shells of other players)

i have them set at 0 (shells) and 10 (puffs)

don't know if this applies to HL in general but for CS it worked ok for me.
