  • G400MAX have horrible performance in 3dmark 2000

    Hi all,
    I buy Tbird 800 and Abit KT7-RAID mb,
    now I solute my AGP4x problem.
    The 3dmark 2000 v1.1 make result in 1024x768x32bit about 2400, I am running on latest mb/matrox drivers. My frind have same CPU and MB, but have GeForce 2GTS 32MB DDR, he get 4700 result in same seting. Is realy GF2GTS 2times faster that G400max?
    What you thing about this?
    Thank you,
    Janekx

    try disabling HW TnL on your friends PC, and compare the results again

    and yes, the GTS is much faster... do you think that is odd?

      Yes, the Geforce is that much faster....at least on that benchmark....

      If you want to win the battle of the benchmarks, then you'd better get a different card than the G400. The G400 rarely out-does any GeForce card on benches. The real test is if it runs the games/apps you want to use.

      My friend has a Geforce 2 GTS and we have the same platforms other than the fact that I have a G400. We play the same games at the same resolutions. My G400 performs perfectly in all the games I have tried.

        Yes, let´s face it, GF2 GTS is about twice as faster than G400 Max. Join it with a Nvidia oriented benchmark and there you go.

          Actually, you should be getting atleast 2800 and not more than 3150. You cannot compare to your friends puter since he has a much faster video card. It sounds like you haven't installed the VIA 4in1 drivers. Make sure you do that. Oh shit, I didn't read you were doing it in 32bit mode. Actually that sounds on par. I'll test when I get home. I get 3001 @ 1024x768x16 on my system which is a 700@927 with a G400 vanilla.

            I agree you have to learn to compare apples to apples. So I ran the 3DMark2000 version 1.1 benchmark on my system and then went to the online browser results page and this is what I found.

            First the Configuration:

            Then the comparison by CPU:

            But look what I found when I tried to compare by 3d accelerator:

            No one else at home.

            But when the graphics look this good who cares:

                  T'kul Bastile,

                  That is from the demo run that is part of 3DMark2000.

                  Janekx,

                  Put your money where your mouth is and post a screen shot. But be sure you compare apples to apples this time.

                    Hey Janekx,

                    I just reread your starting post and it is your friend who has the Gspot card. Sorry about my comment, but as Nuno said that benchmark was designed with nVidia in mind. Ask your friend to post a screenshot.

                      No screen shot necessary. The GTS is inferior to the MAX in screen quality. I have both and have had them on the same computer. Not to raise a fuss, but just for the sake of having data, my GTS does a default 3D2K of 5000.

                          Maggi,

                          I've looked at your 3dmark scores in the past and always tried to figure out why your scores are higher and I've come to the conclusion that, a) You are OC'ing the FSB, memory, AGP, and PCI buses as well which will probably show greater performance compared to myself which is just overclocking my CPU(9x100), or b) you have also/or over clocked your video card to MAX speeds which would also give higher results. As Joel pointed out in a previous thread, he gets 3174 with his t-bird 800 and we have almost identical setups but the difference is, he is OC'ing his G400 to MAX speeds. Please let me know if you agree/disagree or anyone else for that matter

                            Howdy Dave,

                            a) yes, of course
                            b) yes, of course

                            FSB = 112MHz
                            RAM = 112MHz
                            AGP = 75MHz
                            PCI = 37.5 MHz

                            G400 core = 150MHz
                            G400 mem = 200MHz

                            and just to let others know, my CPU is a Celeron566@952 and my G400 is a regular 32MB DH non-MAX at MAX clocks.

                            Cheerio,
