  • 3D suddenly turned completely off

Well, yesterday I finaly got some time to play CS after 3 days of straight work, started it and what do I get... "Your card doesn't support that mode" or smth like that...
Hm... ok, I switched to DirectX.
And it's sooo slow. Guess what? No hardware accelereation found! It's software mode... hm... (pretty nice though).

Ok, I start to think it's HL problem, fire Q3A up - same problem.

Now, I didn't install/reinstall anything about OpenGL or drivers in these 3 days. I have 5.11 drivers (on W2K of cource) and ASUS K7V mobo.
Had to move to bios 1007.
Reinstalled drivers (removed them from device manager).
    Nothing helped.
I also tried some other games.
Oh, in dxdiag in display tab it shows:

    Direct3D acceleration: Not available
    AGP support: Not available

    But doesn't show any errors.
(hm... this guy seem to have same problem: http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/Forum4/HTML/004160.html)
Anyway, going to install 5.04 and 5.10 to see what'll happen.

Now, Q3A log looks very interesting:

Check and make sure you are in 16 or 32bit color, and NOT 24bit.

      You mean desktop?
      No no... it's fine 32bit.

I just spent an hour reinstalling old drivers (kind'a pain - they don't work, you get VGA and BSOD when trying to get to Display settings - takes time to reinstall anyway).
Anyways, when I finaly got to 5.11 it still doesn't work.

Post your IRQs here. This may give us some clues.

Oh, and forgot to have you check the following:

Double click the quickdesk icon in your systray (it's the blue monitor icon), click advanced click troubleshooting, and make the slider is set full to the right to full accelleration.

Sometimes win2k will move the setting back down on it's own for some reason. I have this happen to me at work occassionally.

So I take it that you have checked to make sure.

                  Still no 3D.
I am getting lonely without my CS... ;-)
I also tried Earth3D that tells me the same thing - can't initialize OpenGL. My understanding is that OpenGL (at least in matrox drivers) is based on DirectX, that doesn't work too of cource.
Ok, now what options do I have?
                  1)Install SP1 (that's least painfull)
2)Reinstall (without deleting) W2K (no, i won't delete W2K in any case, cause I have sooo many progs installed and I've got work to do after all)
3)Try to reinstall drivers back and forth (any idea on how do I make clean install of matrox drivers?)
4)Reinstall DirectX. No idea how to do it and weather it makes any sence.
5)Go with these questions to matrox support forums because murc'ers forum is down, they don't care about people, etc. etc. ;-)

Do you have dual head enabled?

I am having the same problem. I just installed a new motherboard (Asus A7V). I have an Athlon 800 and a G400Max DH.

I was running HL TFC fine before (Asus P2B, PII-400). The only change is the motherboard. Then all of a sudden it says openGL not supported. I reinstalled TurboGL drivers (turns out that K7 has a different set of turboGL drivers). Then when I try to get in the game, crash.

The only yucky thing about my irqs is that sblive and G400 are both using irq11.

                        Problem solved.

I renamed the opengl32.dll in half life directories and put in the ICD.

Can somebody explain to me why did it start working again?
I just spent some time building another computer, and I had to borrow floppy from my box. Now, I turn everything back on and it works...
