    D3D.

Using D3D gives me 10-20 fps more over OpenGL. Using OpenGL I top at 27 fps. With D3D I top at my fps_modem which is 60 fps. Getting 60 fps only happens when staring at a wall. With OpenGL staring at a wall I get 27fps (WTF?). I see no difference in image quality. If there is any it is negligible.

The only problem using D3D is when connecting to a server and something goes wrong the screen goes blank. If this happens alt+ctrl+del and go to task manager and stop half-life. This only happens to me when connecting for the first time. Any way its unpredicable because most of the time there is no problems seeing the menus.

NOTE: You have to have gl_texsort 1 for the textures to work. If using OpenGL turn it off. I do not know how many times I have read that it hurts performance (Tweak3D, others). Oh it might be a little dark so I use these settings and everything is fine.

texgamma 1.8 //lower the brighter, textures)
    gamma 4 // 4 is the max)
    brightness 2
gl_polyoffset -2 //has to be negitive in D3D so you can see decals (blood, bullet holes, etc)
lightgamma 2 // default 2.5 lower the brighter at 0 no dark shadows on level

That remindes me there is a weird anomaly with the decals. You can see them around corners. Nothings perfect.

Ok, I have W2K, and CS just kills my computer in Direct X, so I had to switch to OpenGL.
    Now it's working fine.

The only problem is that I have texture problems sometimes, like in sniper aim, green smoke of models all in bondages ;-)

      Are you talking about this?
      http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/Forum4/HTML/003987.html

These are texture problems I had. But when I started to use 5.11 drivers the problem went away.

When you use D3D did you notice a lot of swapping with the hard drive? Causing stuttering in the game. I had this problem when using resolutions 800x600 and higher. To solve the problem I placed this switch statement in the command line:

      -heapsize 96000

The problem went away. When I play CS either using OpenGL or D3D I play at 640x480. I know I lot of people probably can't stand that resolution but I do find it more reliable, stable, and faster. In the heat of the action that is what counts the most.

Here is my autoexec.cfg file for CS

console "1" // Enable console usage
enableconsole "1" // Enable the console
netusage "0" // Display network usage information 1 of 2

I hope you have SP1 installed because there are DirectX bug fixes. They said they fixed that DirectInput bug where it seemed the mouse button was sticky when playing D3D games. If you played Shogo or KISS you know what I am talking about. I have not played these games since so I have no personal comformation.

          Well, I have that problem:

But on my weapon textures, not level.

Yes, I too had that problem on weapons. I had it every where. It was on weapons, a leg of a character model, the scope view of a sniper rifle, etc. It happened randomly. I could get it to stop for a while by pressing the ESC key and go back to the in game menus and then resuming game. But when the drivers 5.11 came out the problem is no longer there. I noticed if you set your AGP aperture in the BIOS to 256 the texture corruption (when i had it in 5.10) was there but less distracting because the textures were no longer flashing different colors. Is your aperture set at 256 in BIOS? Do you have 5.11 drivers installed?
