  • UT Z-buffer problem

Any word on when the UT Z problems will be solved? I'm frankly getting tired of waiting.

A few questions about it (directed at folk such as Haig):

    1) Why is it such a difficult fix?
    2) What causes it specifically?
    3) Whose fault is it? Matrox driver-team, G400 architecture, Epic, or Microsoft?

I am still running 6.00 so I am not certain if 6.01 fixes the problem...

    Thanks

It is NOT a driver problem. Believe me

Epic is aware of the problem

AFAIK, it is not a problem. It's a...uh...feature! Right, that's it.

Rest assured, it will remain a feature on ALL video cards that use a Zbuffer, and not a wbuffer.

          And what is a w-buffer?

Z-Buffer: stores actual depth (3rd dimension) of each pixel
W-Buffer: stores actual perspective information for each pixel

Z-Buffer is generally not as accurate due to rounding error, etc.

At least this is how I understand it.

            Rags, thanks for the clarification.

              hi all,

I found long time ago this article "Floating point depth buffering to eliminate Z aliasing artifacts
" on the Reverend Pulpit site. I hope it`s useful for someone.
