  • Anyone Got -> G400 & K7M ??

Has anyone got a system with a G400 and a K7M motherboard? I'm getting very poor performance with the following system and I'm looking for some help on how to improve it. I get no more than 20 fps with any game I play and a score of 1407 with 3DMark2000. Any driver/bios suggestions would help aswell.
    Thanks for your help,

I am always using 16bit, 600x800 (or 640x480), Quake3, Unreal Tournament, using D3D and OpenGL (turboGL). I put it on the fastest display settings still with the same poor results. I also have to IRQ conflicts.

How many FPS do you get the above settings in games like Q3 and UT?

I'll have to check when I get home (Around 4:40PM). Which IRQs are conflicting and what is on them? I'll check with Q3 and UT later today. I'll post somethings else by the end of the night.

I know I was getting about 30 FPS with Voyager Elite Force at 1280by1024 which uses the Q3 engine.

      Which type of G400 is your's? (MAX, DH, etc . . .)

Sorry, I meant to say I HAVE NO IRQ CONFLICTS.

And I have a G400 single head 32mb (not max)

I have a smilar system. (See Below) All should work.

          Miniport - Check
          Bios - Check
          5.5* Release - Check Check

What renderering mode, game, bit depth and resolution were you running in a real world game/app?

Make sure none of your cards have conflicting IRQs. This is difficult unless you disable some things in Bios. I disabled my Serial ports and Floppy DIsk COntroller. Don't worry if your dual USB controllers have the same IRQ though. This has not been a problem for anyone else.

I have a system simmilar to yours.
            Mine is:
            AMD Athlon K7 500
            128mb Ram
            Matrox G400 MAX
            Asus K7M (bios 1009)
            SB Live

And I have never exprienced any trouble with the speed/hardware, I play UT in 1024x768x32 and it runs smooth (about 30 fps or so). Maybe you have some memory resident program which is hogging all your CPU time. Try some program like wintop to see what programs are running and how much they use of the CPU when running.
