  • 5.55 PD drivers, G400MAX, gaming??

I am running a G400MAX, very happily with the 5.50Beta drivers. Got a RRG, and the latest Vid Tools say to use only with 5.55 PD. Is anybody gaming with this setup (I haven't put the RRG in yet, so I don't know about that aspect, just don't want to mess up my games!) The 5.55 driver Read Me said that TGL is not supported, but I quit using that with the 5.50 anyway. Thanks in advance to any who might help!

    What games?

I needed Official Matrox 6.0 beta to run Quake3; see other topics about Quake1. Half-Life 1100 works fine for me with beta 6.

Haven't tried UnrealTournament with Beta6 yet.

Perhaps you could be more specific with your needs or problems?

    Great bunch of help here!

Pardon me, but what is RRG?

        I mostly play Q3A.
RRG is shorthand for Rainbow Runner-G series.
It is Matrox daughter card for (among others) the G400Max to enable video editing and capture.
The video tools driver for the RRG work in conjunction with PD 5.55, NOT 6.0 Beta. This I know. What I don't know is whether or not my gaming will suffer using said 5.55 drivers. BTW, I run Q3A quite well with the 5.50 drivers.

          Interesting.

I couldn't get Q3 to run with those drivers.

Thanks for the info about RRA.

            RRA=RRG

            Jeez.

I think I read somewhere that for gaming the 5.55 drivers are equal to the 5.52, in that they have no fixes for G400Max's just fixes for the RRG.

                JWilliams,

I was a little surprised when you mentioned that the 5.55 does not support TurboGL. I have been using PD 5.55 through PKY's driver pack v1.5, and TurboGL appears to work fine.

Just for reference, I get around 45fps in default High Quality (800x600) in Quake3 Timedemo demo001. I am not sure what the speed would be without TGL, though.

I posted this earlier, but I guess it didn't take.

I think I read 5.55 dosen't support TGL somewhere in the driver read me file.

I am running 5.55 now, with the RRG, and gaming is fine, but I get a LOT MORE CRASHES.

BSOD and lock up several times, doing several different things. Not at all like the 5.50 ran.

Yes I got the IRQs sorted out, yes I did a uninstall first, but things be a crashing...

This is the gaming forum, so I will say that BMs and Q3A demos are totally up to snuff, but I miss my never crash in months system.
