• Marvel G400 (Newbie)

I have just bought myself a marvel, and i was playing around with the video side of things over the weekend, (very nice i might add),

    But, i am a little dissapointed with 3d performance ! ( my other card is a voodoo3 3k)

could you purhaps give me a few tips ?

I wonder if overclocking is an option ?

I am using the Beta6 drivers, which seemed to make things run in games a lot more stably !

I have come across mention of a "turbo gl" driver, would this benefit me at all ?

Here is my spec, if its helpful with the over clocking !

    MSI Via slot 1 running a p3600 @ 800 (133 *6)
    384mb pc100
    G400 Marvel !
    13gb Seagate UDMA 66
    20gb Maxtor UDMA 66
    errrr, SB live Player !
    3com 10/100 nic !

        sly_guy,

I'll try to help you. Try searching the forums for the games you want to enhance and I'm sure you'll find the speed boost you want. Overclocking is definatly an option as your video card is running rather slowly at 125/166, so get MGATweak and o/c. Turbo gl will not increase speed probably as the 6.01 drivers have better Open gl drivers. I hope that I have been of at least some help.

          i am a little dissapointed with 3d performance !

What does this mean? You have problems with the 3D, or do you need more fps (which I'll come to later, if you don't mind), or doesn't it work the way you want it to work?

Okay... [here's my list of things to tell you that might be wrong in your setup, but before I fire them off to you, could you already post here and tell us your IRQ list?

          IRQ list making and saving:

          Start -> Run -> type msinfo32, Enter.
(left window) Harware Resources, goto IRQs, goto Edit, Select All, Copy, open notepad or some text-editor, do Paste and save it.

Them for us to see, open a reply window in this thread and copy & paste those IRQs here.

          Ready for it?

Your G400 Marvel only has 16Mb RAM on board, enough to do all video-editing stuff etc. but maybe not enough to play the latest 3D games with. Especially not when you want lots of fps in your FPS
You're using the beta 6 drivers? Wrong, as before you start saying your Videotools don't work, these drivers aren't for the G400-Marvel. They are for the G400 & Max.
You should be using the PD5.55 and the VideoTools 154 for the Marvel.
Someone else has to come in and say if the voodoo3 can work together with any G400 these days (Haig?)
You're using an MSI VIA? Do a search on VIA in Matrox Harware and see what it brings up for tweaking.
The Turbo GL driver doesn't work with the Beta6 drivers you're now (wrongly) using. Btw, going back to the drivers for your Marvel, do use the uninstaller for the Powerdesk.
Cheers for the replys fellas,

I am in the office atm, so i will get an irq list later but,

Jorden > I have installed the 6.0 drivers, and they work fine with the video side of things , and as far as i'm aware, the amount of ram you have doesn't affect performance, it only affects the resolutions and colour depths you can use, memory speed afects performance !

What sort of speed should i be able to O/C to, (using a Pentium fan stuck on) ?

heh. Of course you are disappointed. Well actually you shouldn't be if you had done some research. Anyways a Voodoo 5 or Geforce/2 are anywhere from about 3x to 3.5 faster in Q3.
