  • Improve your Elite Force FPS by around 10-15%.

    Yes, that's true.
after trying all sorts of drivers/openGL Configs with this game, trying to get rid of texture errors, I found something interesting.
while each driver/openGL Combo has SOME sort of corruption or another (well, it's just a pre-release demo, so I can except it), I am one of these pepole who run thier games at the MAX Visual quality settings allowed.(Example: my Quake 3 runs at: 1024X768, 32bit, High-Geo, Textures at MAX... SHQ, isn't it? ) and so does Elite Force. MAX Settings@1024X768.
so, FPS is 2nd. to me, but still, important.
and I was not VERY impressed with FPS on my G400 with EF at Max settings.
After trying 5.52 drivers without TurboGL (not supported yet) it gave me Okay FPS. so I tried the 6.00 Beta drivers, curruption was gone (Except in a few area), but the FPS of Both Quake3 and Elite Force droped by Around ~5 fps (and since I never get beyond 40fps in such game at SHQ, each FPS counts! ). so, after that I tried something, that REALLY left me impressive.
I just tooke the Opengl32.dll TurboGL File from the Quake3 Root Directory and copied it to the Elite Force Root Directory.
Anyway, I started Elite force, and went to the "Driver Info" Section. and there it was written: Matrox TurboGL For G400. yee!
so it's using TurboGL, but does it work?
well, I started a new game, and played a little. guys, I got 10(!!!!) more FPS, or perhpas even more, the game just was sooooo smooth, running even better then Quake3 itself and beside ONE issue, the Image Quality was AS good as using PD6.0/5.52 GL Drivers.
what was the problem? well... Just run the Voyager Bridge scene... heheh.... Pepole get "Wrong" Textures... it's kinda scary actually... they all look like Brown Creatures...
so, it's not a 100% Valid solution, but guys, if Matrox will sometime bring a TurboGL File for Elite Force, JUMP ON IT! so much faster!

anyway, just wanted to let you know.
and feel free to try this, and write back!

    Assimulate This!!
    Have fun!

oh, and just so you know.
if you want to get this Boost you will need to use the 5.52 Drivers... not 6.00 beta drivers... as TurboGL OpenGL32.dll files have problems with 6.0 drivers.

      Thanks for the tip, DataOrb!

I started playing the demo tonight and I must say I am really impressed by it. The atmospherics, voices, sound effects, colours and graphical details are spot on. The only thing I wasn't too happy with was the framerate (High Quality), which seemed a little on the slow side, although nowhere near as bad as my experiences have been with Ultima IX (that's the last time I buy an Origin product - those bastards optimised the game for the 3dfx Doodoo chipset and nothing else!!!).

Anyway, I shall copy the .dll into the folder and see what happens.

      Thanks again,

WarFlail, Great! I would love to know if has the same affect on your sys as it did on my.
just make sure you use Power Desk 5.52 Drivers and NOT Power Desk 6.00.
Hope to hear from you soon.

I am running it with the latest beta6 drivers that I have and the TGL and everything seems to be running fine. I am using the default High Quality settings.

Works fine for me! I thought that there was a speed improvement with the .dll in place, although I don't know how to test that.

Smooth framerates, no image corruption (except when scenes are loading... sometimes the screen gets funny horizontal lines all over it). I found the smoothest rate to be in Normal mode but running at 800x600 resolution (that other default resolution 960x720 or whatever, wouldn't let me play fullscreen).

What an awesome game - it really had me wanting more! What a complete shame that Jeri Ryan didn't do the voice acting for Seven - what happened there? The rest of the cast feature in the game...

Just tried using the Turbo GL dll with the 5.55 drivers, and the screen just stays grey. I can hear all the sounds as I move around the menu, I just see what I'm doing

                  Any ideas?

Yeah, upgrade to the latest beta drivers. And if you are running Win2K don't try to use the TGL driver and remember that Win2K is not a gaming platform. Even Microsoft will tell you that.
