  • Quake3: Is 3 minutes to load normal?

    Is it?

From the time that I click the shortcut to the appearance of the menu is 3 min 7 sec.

Any way to speed this up?

wow. No that is definetly not normal heh. hmmmmmmmmm.

    1. Defrag your HD.
    2. Delete the q3config.cfg in BaseQ3. Then start game. If still takes to long then see #3.
    3. Reinstall game.
    4. Scandisk your drives.
    5. Check your DMA/UDMA settings.
    6. Make sure your using appropriate HD cabling.
    7. Bench your drives with HDTACH.

      Defragged: no help.

      Delete Q3.cfg: no help

      Reinstall Q3: no help

      ScanDisk: No errors

DMA, UDMA: not applicable to SCSI, ie busmastering

Cable: If you priced LVD cable...

HDTach: Similar results to Adaptec SCSI Tools: about 27m/s for Quantum, 17 for IBM
      Drive speed not the problem.

Any interrupt conflicts? I found the MX300 should be on its own IRQ (as well as the G400). For me, if the MX300 was sharing an IRQ, it would hang in Q3A if I went into setup during a game.

Oh Well I do think you have some serious problem/misconfiguration with you ultra 2 card...
cause i have the very same scsi card, coupled with an ibm dnes 9 gigabytes lvd !
and i got 52 mb with hd tach (win 2k)! (got 56 under win98 strange)

have a look at the bandwith in the scsi card bios to see if wide negotiation is active and if the bandwith is on 40mb/s

I used to have very long load times too, because I was loading from my very slow CD-ROM. I installed full install to my harddrive and it was still slow, then I did some benchmarks on my harddrives and my C drive was able to do like 16,000kb/s while my D was only able to do 40kb/s. So I installed full install to my C instead of D, and then load times were a lot shorter. Hope this helps.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

The problem is with Kaspersky Labs AVP anti-virus monitor. I've had this program for over 2 years and this is the first time that I've had any problems with it.

I've notified AVP; will post their reply when
              I get it.
