  • SoF OpenGL Initialisation error?

    Hi guys,

Help! I just got my very own Soldier of Fortune. I installed it. I started it. It crashed...

I got new G400 drivers from the Matrox site. I started SoF again. It crashed...

I used the latest drivers and still it DOESN'T WORK. I get a "OpenGL initialisation error". I'm out of options right now, so anybody.... CAN YOU HELP ME???

    Thanx,
    Alex.

    Hi,

Make sure your desktop is set to either 16 bit or 32 bit NOT 24. Also try disabling dualhead before starting the game.

Don;t run the game as administrator, but as a power user. It says that all over the web...

Make sure you have an IRQ assigned to the G400 in the BIOS....

          Hi Kruzin,

I think I tried giving the G400 an IRQ in the BIOS. But I don't think I tried it with the latest drivers. I think I disabled the IRQ before I installed the latest drivers. I'll try this.

          Thanx.

I had the same problem.....just kept feeding it the cd untill it finally installed properly.

The 5.30 drivers work fine for me with no crashs so far.

            Good luck....it's a great game!

I suggest staying away from glsetup. It is just a package of rather dated drivers for various video cards. You get more current drivers by using either 5.30 or 5.52 from Matrox...

Thanks for replying! I tried using 16bit colour and 32bit colour, disabling DualHead, nothing seems to work. I am using Win98.

                  Any more suggestions anyone?

                    Thanx.

I'll try the latest drivers with an IRQ enabled in the BIOS. If this doen't work I'll try 5.30 drivers.

                    I hope it helps...

The "end of level one" crash is common.
Check it out on the SOF message board. http://sof.ravensoft.com/

                        Try this:
                        -uninstall the game
-hunt down and eliminate any registry entries
                        -reinstall the game
-run SOF in the Default Mode to set it up
