  • PowerDesk 6.00 beta opinions

    Well,
Here are some things I found using the new PowerDesk 6 beta.
    1) Quake3: Arena works fine with and without TurboGL 1.3, but still slower than PD5.30
    2) Unreal Tournament performs the same as other driver releases
    3) 3DMark2000 scores is ~100 points lower than PD5.55

These are what I found, and might not affect others...please tell me what your thoughts are on the new PD6 beta...thx

I'm yet to get anything other than a black screen on my primary display once windows boots on my machine. However the secondary display works fine?! Trying various things at the moment to see if I can get it to work. Note I can get a text mode full screen back if i open a dos prompt alt alt-enter it...

Performance is generally worse (than 5.55) in Quake3 and Quake1 TF.

I wasn't intending to revert back to old drivers even if performance is worse, but then I find out that Quake1 TF doesn't play properly

Are beta testers aware of problems in QuakeWorld? The models/textures are all flashing... disappearing and reappearing at about 10Hz. Sometimes this graphics glitch won't happen at start-up, but simply jump into water for example and voila

Just an idea, have you tried to reset your refresh rate on your primary display, or to reset the resolution on the primary when you have the problem? I know that my monitor won't even come up if it gets a signal outside it's range. This is a protection feature built into many newer monitors to protect them from damage.

          Properly uninstalled old drivers.
          Don't use TurboGL.

Shoyu, last time (a long time ago) I got a reply to the GLQuake/GLQW problem from BBs, the reason was that nobody of the BB bunch has a Quake1 so they can't test it. Dunno if Matrox Tech Support has it either.. In any case, the GLQuake/GLQW bug is still in the OpenGL ICD and might show up with other games too.

I would like to offer my services as a Quake1/world beta tester.
Haig, just e-mail me the NDA and drivers any ol' time.

Quake 3 crashes to the desktop when I try to load a level now. Didn't with 5.52/5.55.

All games and benchmarks I tried (Q3, SOF, MDK2, 3DMark 2000 and DMZG) gained 1-5 fps and what is really nice is that new Need for Speed tablefog works now. I'm very glad of that!

                  Thanks Matrox, very good drivers!

PS. Did everyone uninstall old drivers? If you have problems with PD6, try uninstalling.

Which CPU do You have? On PII/Celeron there are all the same problems with NFS5 and fog as in 5.52

                      I have P3-500(oc'd 560)Mhz.
So you still have problems with fog?
Did you uninstall old drivers before PD6?

Yes, everything looks like with 5.52
Coud You try this simple app: http://malenstwo.iinf.polsl.gliwice....TestVBbin.zip? And send me results?
(select Triangle Strip and test varius options Texture/Multitexture with Fog table On/Off)

Strange, I just yesterday played NFS-PU and fog really is there. And I know what I'm talking about, 'cause I'm the one who started this fog-thing about year ago. But I try that program you suggested and let's see then...

I went back to pd5.52 after trying these betadrivers, in the Diablo 2 stress test I got bsod's after a few minutes, never happened before, and in Planescape:Torment there were some weird effects once or twice - nothing serious however. I'll just wait for the final release.
