  • 8 Bit Texture support?

Just got Shogun - Total War, and in the setup/options it has a check box for "8 bit textures", which it says to enable for better graphics. It also says G400 doesn't support this.

What is this about, and what is the "usual"? texture bit size?

8-bit textures provide increased performance on older 3D hardware but at the cost of some visual quality. You'll probably find that you can enable 8-bit textures through your SLI setup.

The G400 only support 16-bit texture mapping. 16-bit textures gives better visual quality but require more 3D hardware to run well.

      the G400 supports:

8bit textures (palletized to 256 colors)
high color textures (either 15 or 16bit)
true color textures (24 or 32bpp)

Go for true color ... it's worth it.
