  • MDK2 rox!

    Hi,

I just tried MDK2 in Win2K (G400, celeron 366@550) and it looks awesome! Gameplay is fantastic too! GET THIS GAME!! ;-)

Just one gripe: At 800x600, 32 bit the game runs at 28 fps average. I get hickups every now and then and it's just not fluent. Anyone else having the same problems in win2k? Friend of mine says that it runs very smoothly in win98 (dual celeron 400, geforce SDR)

    Greets,
    Jorg

what version of the matrox drivers?

and are you using the glsetup that came with mdk2 or not

and what filtering are you using(none, bilinear or trilinear)?

and what did you change the texture quality slider to?

i'm running it at 1024 x 768 32bit colour bilinear filtering, mipmap enabled and full screen with 3/4 for the texture quality

i'm also runnign with the latest drivers and nice clean install thanks to the new 61.4 gig drive install.......

      5.04 matrox win2k drivers
      I didn't use the glsetup
      Matrox G400 DH 32MB vanilla o/clocked to 160/190/160
      bilinear filtering
      texture quality max
changing the texture quality to 3/4 makes a 1 FPS difference

      Are you using Win2K?
And what framerate are you getting?

      Greets,
      Jorg

I just downloaded the demo and it is very cool. The demo only uses OpenGL and it ran very smooth (28-32fps average) on my system at 800x600x32bit, trilinear filtering, and at 3/4 on the texture setting. I didn't use the GL setup either and I'm running Win98.

          Joel

Even at 1024x768x32bit, trilinear filtering, and the texture settings at full it still showed an average of between 28-32fps.

From personal experience, as well as from reading similar stories here and elsewhere, MDK2 seems to be CPU limited. With my G400Max/P3-558 (450 o.c.)/256MB RAM, I get ~38-40 fps at both 800x600x32 and 1024x768x32, with texture quality set all the way up, and mipmaps enabled. Such a pretty game.

Oh, and yes, the game rocks!

Hehe. Forgot to mention that I was also using trilinear filtering.

              Not bad for a G200, I guess (it´s OpenGL)...
              The games looks good, though.

                  It does look great.

                  At 1024X768
                  texture quality 4/4 (highest setting)
                  16 bit color
                  bilinear filter
                  mipmap on

I get 66 FPS for "test". 32-bit color drops it down to 60 FPS, and with 16-bit color and trilinear filtering, it drops to 49 FPS (ouch).

                  Not bad OpenGL performance.

                  John

Tried it also and the demo is *awesome*. It´s a shame it runs almost half-speed in win2k, but it´s still playable. Oh well

So, when is that marvelous win2k ICD coming after all?

Hi Sanjuro (avid Shogo fan I presume? ;-),

To get MDK2 to work in WinMe:

                        - Run the game
                        - In the startup window, press Get Info
                        - Go to your MDK2 program directory and run MDK2Main.exe

That did the trick for me!
If you have any more problems, check out the excellent MDK2 users forum over on the interplay website.

                        Greets,
                        Jorg
