Harpoon2 and Vesa driver

Has anyone tried playing Harpoon2 at a resolution higer than 800*600 on a standard g400 with any success. The documentation states that the G400 supports Vesa modes upto that res in the Bios but to get higher resolutions you need to install (I believe) the vbext.exe application when running in Dos. Unfortunately this has the habit of kicking out my mouse driver which Harpoon2 relies on. The really annoying thing about this was that I bought Janes Combat Fleets at the weekend in the vain hope it might compare with Harpoon2. Unfortunately I was mistaken, although it can go to higher resolutions, the games play and options seem much more limited.
