  • Win2k, Problems with Quake 2 and Quake 3 final demo

Well ok guys maybe you can help me with this problem. I installed quake 2 on my Win2k (final beta) system and installed the latest patch and 3dnow patch and when i load it up it will only load in software mode. If I choose 3dnow opengl or default opengl I get a grey screen and have to reboot. I also installed the Quake 3 final demo and when I start a game I get to the game screen but it locks and has sound looping and I have to reboot again. I amd running the 5.03 Win2k drivers. I am running my system in ACPI mode (thank god with my new pa-2013 rev 2.1 auto shutdown works perfect) I do not see any conflicts but I do notice that the g400 and the VIA USB controller are both on IRQ 11. here are my IRQs

    IRQ Number Device
    9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
    11 Matrox Millennium G400 - English
11 VIA VT83C572/VT82C586 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
    5 Creative AWE64 16-bit Audio (SB16 compatible) (WDM)
    10 Diamond SupraExpress 56i Voice V.90
    14 Primary IDE Channel
    15 Secondary IDE Channel
    13 Numeric data processor
    8 System CMOS/real time clock
    6 Standard floppy disk controller
    4 Communications Port (COM1)
    3 Communications Port (COM2)
    12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse
1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard

I forgot to add that opengl screensavers work perfect

Delete Opengl32.dll from your Quake directories.
    C:\DOS
    C:\DOS\RUN
    \RUN\DOS\RUN

checked the q3demotest directory and dont see that file.

will have to reinstall quake 2 to see if it was there but i think it is a win2k problem
