To give you a close comparison, I have a p3-450-128 and a vanilla g400dh with nothing overclocked and I average over 50 fps at 800x600 and 32-bit color on win98.

You have to give more info, not only about your system, but also what is your target res/depth for quake3.

I had a major problem with irq conflicts, that didn't always lead to crashes but always gave horribly slow performance. You might want to look at that.

I really think there might be a serious problem with your system. I'm getting 48,3 fps in HQ 800*600, with a G400 Max@default clock speeds, PD 5.52/TGL 1.30 and 47,7 fps without TGL. Your scores should be a little lower than mine, because I have the Max and an overclocked CPU/FSB, but it shouldn't be that much of a difference. I could post some scores on my sytem with default CPU/FSB and the Max clocked down to vanilla G400 speeds to give you a point of reference, what you should be getting with your system and settings. You should take a look at FAQ forums, maybe theres some sort of trouble with your sytem and the G400.

My Q3A fps at 1024 x 768, 32 bit everything, high textures and geometery, bilinear textures and vertex lighting, all game fx ON:

                40.7 fps

                No overclocking or tweaks whatsoever.

At 640 x 480, everything on low, all fx OFF:

                72.8 fps

I just ran Q3A with the settings you posted above, P3 450 at default clock speed and G400 Max clocked down to vanilla G400 speed with MGA Tweak. I was getting 64,4 fps with PD 5.52 ICD and 70,3 fps with TGL 1.30. Maybe there's some IRQ conflict or an older videocard driver conflict (Voodoo 2?). AFAIK Q3A performance suffers heavily when A3D sound is enabled. Oh, and make sure that 32bit Z-Buffer is disabled. At least on my sytem, Q3A runs much faster with this setting unchecked and I couldn't get Q3A to run with 32bit Z-Buffer enabled and PD 5.52. I guess that you didn't enable this, because Q3A works for you. I hope you can sort this out, you should be able to get nearly double the framerate in Q3A with your sytem. Good luck

                  Ole

I can't help you but this is what I have:
                    I have a celeron 416
                    with G400 max
                    128 SDRAM 100
and I can play Q3 with all options full
in 800*600 with wore than 60 fps
I almost never have a slow in the game
but I personally prefer playing in 1024*768 32 bits with almost everything full
                    and only a few slows
                    sorry for you

You're complaining about fps being low? I can't even get it to run with the same card you have and the same drivers, it just gets all screwy, luckily I don't like the game much and prefer UT, I wouldn't mind fixing it but $70AUS for a game that doesn't work is annoying, and I can't take it back cos it was second hand. Besides who would I be without owning Q3??

at 1024x768 with everything turned on, i get 54.1 fps on timedemo 1. Which is why I will always keep buying Matrox cards....
