  • Can anyone help my friend?! (Half-Life problem)

He can't post himself 'cos he's reinstalling.... doh!

    Spec:

    G400 Marvel, powerdek 5.41.008
    Athlon 650
ASUS K7M MB, bios version 1008
    392 MB RAM
    DXR DVD video decoder
    SBLive! value
    SCSI CDROM, CDR & HDDs

    Win98SE
    DX 7.0a
    Half-Life v1.0.1.6, Counter-Strike b6.1

The problem: he gets fairly regular (like every half hour or so) crashes in HL where it quits to windows with the message "this program has caused an illegal operation..." etc, in Kernel32.

The question is: what drivers (G400, VIA etc) and BIOS versions/settings (G400, motherboard) should he be using? Also what options in G400 tweak? He cares more about stability than speed... right now he's got neither!

I only have intel PCs and the VIA driver situation seems to be more complicated. Thanks alot in advance for any help

I think those warnings are a fact of life with Half-Life (certainly not every half hour though).

I would suggest reinstalling Half-Life. I got to the point where I couldn't run HL at all and reinstalling fixed the problem.

      Thanks ahartman

I never have any crashes in HL so I think it is his hardware/drivers. He's using 5.25 now (even though Matrox says the latest Marvel release is 5.41 - ?!) and things seem better.

Can anyone give a definite answer on what drivers & settungs he *should* be using?

      Thanks!
