  • 2 athlon boards, me, matrox, UT, some oc and wierd stuff

    hi,

i have a biostar m7mka irongate board. i run there an athlon 700 with a free speed pro as 800. so far no problems.
    memory 256mb.
    AGP 2x
    soundcard: live! november drivers.
UT is on a udma66 ide, rest is SCSI
    graphic card matrox g400 dh 32mb. 142/190
in the time demo at start i have(had) with 1024x768x32, medium, medium, 3dsound, 48 cache size, 35 desired frame rate
an average framerate of 54-56 (depends if i started with altered mem timings or not).

ok, now i wished to replace the non-stble super bypassing irongate(biostar) boared with the Epox Athlon Board with via kx133 chipset.
after building all in i got around 37 average frame with the settings above. now that's exactly what i was getting under win2k, and why i changed to win98se for gaming.
i tweaked, tryed all, all AGP via drivers, 4.17, 4.18, 4.20 (i never saw any difference.. (is it normal btw that its not displayed in sysconfiguration?))
noticed that with the EPOX im not even able to overklock at 750 mhz.. which is now really wierd, as i dont even have to up core voltage with the biostar.
but n/m what i did, i was unable to get my lost frames back.
i made some 3d mark 2000 test which went like that:
    700MHZ;1024x768x16bit@133mhz/cas3:
    3DMark Result: 2912 3D marks
    CPU Speed: 199

    700mhz;800x600x16bit@133mhz/cas3:
    3DMark Result: 3317 3D marks
CPU Speed: 207 CPU 3D marks

the results under the biostar are:
    800mhz;1024x768x16bit@100mhz/cas3(yes 1 bank is old:
    3DMark Result: 2986 3D marks
CPU Speed: 212 CPU 3D marks

    800mhz;800x600x16bit@100mhz/cas3:
    3DMark Result: 3469 3D marks
CPU Speed: 211 CPU 3D marks

now first of the CPU speed is odd in comparation.. i would say its just displayed 800 but isnt going for it, if the irongate wouldnt perform much worser at 700.

now the really funny thing comes.
as i went mad on the epox after 12 hours of trying around, and playing norton-ghost recoverer to test around, i reinstalled my biostar irongate board to go play unreal with my 56 fps.

i couldnt belive if i started ran timedemo, and i was getting nearly the same framerate than with the epox board.

i used an image to rebuild the old win system. nothing was changed, so that was the environment.
i thought maybe my experiments made some altered bios settings in the matrox. i flashed 1.5 back in the card, but still same thing.
i moved UT from udma66 to wide scsi. same thing. i changed udma66 to pio. same thing.

my i HAVE NO CLUE where something eats around 18-20 FPS !!
does anyone have the slightest clue whats going on ? i never saw - actually i did - but all thats completly unlogic whats happening !

ps. the extremly smiling message icon shows good how im looking at the system atm.
Working...
