  • Driver 5.41.008 vs. 5.52.015

Is it just me or is the 5.41 driver faster than the new one ???
    I have tried 3DMark99MAX and 3Dmark2000.

Don't know, but could apply ...

Reason could be that PD5.41 was the latest (most mature) release for DX6 and PD5.52 is now based upon DX7 and needs some more optimizations to fully benefit frmo that updated API.
Despite my nickname causing confusion, I am not female ...

5.52 is just marginally faster with Q2 and Q3A than 5.41 was on my system.

      And more stable too.

I found TurboGL 1.30, which I believe requires 5.5X, to be a bit faster than TurboGL 1.0.

The 5.52 ICD is faster than the 5.41 ICD, although I get some visual glitches in Quake3 that I didn't see in the 5.51 beta set.

I got a performance increase in 3DMark2000 when moving to the 5.5X drivers. This is probably due to the DirectX 7 support.

If you are running a VIA or ALi chipset, you probably want to stick with the drivers you're using, as there appear to be compatibility issues with the 5.5X drivers and non-Intel chipsets.

I have a Celeron 433@541 on Abit BH6 and G400 DH32. With the new drivers I cant run 3Dmark2k @541 anymore, just @475. I think the old drivers was better for my system. Does anyone have the same problem????

I'm taking a guess here. On my overclocked system, the PD 5.41 drivers defaulted to AGP 1x, which helped maintain stability with the AGP bus clocked so high (89 MHz). The 5.5X drivers default to AGP 2x, and I'd lose stability. Forcing AGP 1x cured the problem.

The 5.52 ICD is MUCH faster on my system than the 5.41. Everything works fine....

What kind of hardware do U guys have?
Celeron or P3? Anyway my system defaulted to
AGP x1 with the new 5.5x drivers and it freeze instantly if I force AGP x2. How much difference is it with the V-Sync disabled in Q3? In which program can I disable it?
