  • I am a bad,bad man..........

I just RMAed my g400max.....and got an asus
6800 pure instead.....I love the g400max's image quality with a passion......it is just that q3 would sometimes bog down a bit in a heavy server.....this is at 800 x 600
At 1024 x 768 it was oft unplayable....I know the max has a much better image quality,
but I think the 6800 pure would look better when at a higher res.......

I hope the next matrox kicks some ass.

Can you play at 1024 x 768 in q3 just fine?

I have a celeron 366@605,and this may be the limiting factor here.

    Hi there,

I have a celery 464a with 128 megs ram, and a Single Head 16MB OEM G400, and I play 1024X768 32/32 in Q3, and it runs fine for me. It is only a bit slower than my P3 560.

My pIII 450 @ 504 runs great at 1024... bout 40fps all the time. Including those big LAN games, even when my system is also the server. Sounds like you had some other problems beside the MAX...

My system is just fine........trust me I am running with a new install and all the right drivers...on an abit bf-6 MB....I am playing with everything cranked to the max though...

Anyways my FPS in the time demos are about the same as all the reviews I have read on the card(recent) but in crazy DMs I get choppy for a second or two now and then at 1024 x 768.

You'll have to tell us if this actually solves your choppiness problem. My bet is that it won't. The G400's dual 128 bit buses is a generation ahead of anything else out there.

funny, all the reviews note the fact that the g400 has a better min fps than the geforced

My brother experiences the same choppiness at 1024x with his Annihilator Pro. He's running a PIII500 w/128mb. From what he's been able to figure out, it seems to be a texture management issue. The common fix seems to be to turn the detail down just a bit. So much for "High IQ"

DuRaNgO, you were right. I've run the benchmarks myself. However, Guillemot just released a new batch of drivers for their 3D Prophet GeForce 256. These are based on the nVidia reference drivers 3.77 that have been leaked out for a little while now. These drivers do significantly help out the GeForce 256's min fps performance.

Nevertheless, the min fps of a GeForce 256 card was worse than a G400, and now is comprable to a G400.
