  • OpenGL+VIA Chipset+G400...anyone get it to work???

I've been trying to get openGL to work with HalfLife...but I haven't had any luck yet. I am now running the latest Powerdesk Drivers...and I've tried the previous ones and had the same problem. When I start HL in OpenGL...I see the word "loading" then everything crashes. I've been reading...and noticed that people with the VIA Chipset...seemed to be having more trouble than others.

Does anyone have the VIA Chipset and got OpenGL to work???

    Hello, Yes it Does work!

Right now, I'm on a VA503+ board, and after having made the appropriate BIOS/VIA patch adjustments (you can look at my settings below as a reference), HalfLife runs perfectly at 1024 X 768 32bit with the last TurboGL release. I mean, don't get me wrong, the board isn't without it's flaws, but I'll be damned if someone says that it's NEVER worked.

    **System settings**
BIOS: PCI to CPU Write - DISABLED
    Video Bios Cacheable - DISABLED
    Write Cache Pipeline - DISABLED
    Read Around Write - DISABLED
    Aperture Size - either 128 or 256
    Init Display First - AGP
Assign IRQ for VGA - ENABLED

    Drivers and patches used:
Powerdesk 5.30.0x (only because of Thief GOLD and System Shock not running properly with the last updated Beta of 5.50 or 5.41), last version of TurboGL 1.00.002, Via 4-in-1
    patch, DirectX7a.

    Misc:
    Windows98se, 192MB pc100 RAM, Maxtor 16.4GB HD (5400rpm), VA503+ MoBo version 1.0
    Western Digital 2.4GB HD (5400rpm),
AMD K62-450, Matrox G400 32MB OEM (single head), Sound Blaster Live Value, Phoebe V.90 Modem, 19 inch Smile .26dpi monitor.

      Well...
I pretty much have the same settings in my bios but my Aperture size is at 128 (cause it doesn't go any higher)
HL still doesn't work...it crashes the minute I see the "loading" word appear.
Does anyone have the exact same Motherboard as me? "Advance 5/133 by QDI"

I know damn well what driver you were talking about, Compton (aka:wannabe Ghetto Allstar <sik:"...Maybe you need to chiggity check yoself before you wriggity wreck yoself.">). And yes, at the time the Beta was released a while back, games like Thief GOLD and SS2 had graphical problems. I've since then upgraded to I guess the "revised" version of the Beta, and now both games run up fine. In any case, Solo22, good luck in your endeavor, you should be able to get to work....

You obviously havn't tried 5.5.10, which works with Thief, Thief Gold, SS, and Thief 2 demo. The new .10(broken beta was 5.5.08), fixes problems with MANY things, including a bug that caused Expendable not to work on my system. Please upgrade to the latest drivers, and let us know if you continue to have problems.

Ok...I took the opengl32 out of the gamming directories...and now when I choose Opengl in half life...it works. But am I actually using the matrox card by doing so?? cause the framerate seems a bit slow. Im using 5.5.10 powerdesk.
