  • Interpretation of Quake2 benchmark

I went to the console, disabled the sound and ran timedemo 1. The whole demo buzzed by and I went back to the console to find this statement: 0 frames,195.9 seconds: 0.0 fps

    ......what gives?
    P2-400
    128Mb SDRAM
    8.4Gb hd
    G400 16M OEM not tweaked
    Tekram P6B40-A4X mobo
    PD 5.41
    Turbo GL

    Really fast card?..

    Or a REALLY SLOW card?

    I'd try it again...

LOL. I completely overlooked the fact that you said you ran timedemo 1. That in itself does nothing but prepare the game to keep stats of a demo your getting ready to run. After you type timedemo 1 at the console, try loading a demo up. I may be mistaken (haven't played Q2 in over 6 months), but I believe the demo files end with .DEM, and you can find some good ones (for comparison with results others have posted elsewhere) by doing a search on the net for Quake and timedemo.

        Good grief... do this
        "~"
        "timedemo 1"
        "map demo1.dm2" or "map demo1.dm3"
        "~"

        This then runs continuously

if you need to stop it hit "Esc" and then "~" to show the results.
        Enjoy
