A li'l bit o' Quake3 DEMO server...

greetings oracles n' wisemen...

me and my g400 love each other, and we're both quite fond of Q3.
since the breakdown of the "search server" function in Q3 demo/test, I've had a problem: could anyone please inform me if there are any Q3 DEMO/TEST servers available out there for the poor gamers like myself who cannot afford the real stuff?

I tried the Gamespy, but nothing happened when I launched the game from there - that is my demo/test started, but it didn't connect to any server? (I guess all the "baseq3" servers are for full retail games, right?)

bonus?: is it possible to do Q3 benchmarking on the demo/test version?

PS please be nice and patient (regarding misunderstandings/mis-spellings etc.) this being my first post...

Try Pingtool ( http://pingtool.com ). I just checked and it lists many Q3ADemo servers.

And yes, demo benchmarking is possible in the demo.

In fact, it is exactly as it is in the full version. Even the two demos are the same.

Just bring down the console and type these

/disconnect
/timedemo 1
/demomap demo001

or you can benchmark demo002 too. If there isn't a game currently running, you can skip the /disconnect. Plus typing the first few characters then pressing TAB will finish the commands for you automatically.
