  • Interesting: Adobe Premiere & Disappearing Files

    Premiere users are complaining about
their video files being erased for
no apparent reason... vanishing due to
    some strange bug in Premiere...

Adobe claims to have fixed the problem
    with the 5.1a release:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/1b896.htm

...but I'm still reading lots of posts
from users who claim the problem still
    plagues them... even after installing
the update. Other Premiere users swear
    they're not being affected.

This is truly one of the strangest things
I've seen... where a significant number
of people are experiencing a serious
problem and an equally significant number
of people are not experiencing a problem.

Whatever... I'm just glad I use Ulead
    Systems MediaStudio Pro 5.2.

P.S. It'll be very interesting to see if MatroxRT 2000 users experience this bug after "beating up" on the program with heavy duty video editing. I'll be watching very closely.

Not to be too picky, but this sounds like the same kind of FUD Microsoft spits out about Linux. Are you a Ulead employee or something?

After using Premiere extensively for several years (both v4 and v5), I can honestly say I've never experienced anything like this. From a general computing standpoint, I can also see no way that this could reasonably happen; Premiere (or any other application for that matter) has very little to do with file creation/removal, that's all a function of the OS.

        Jerrold,

Apperantly allot of users are quite happy with premiere 5.1a and as you stated in your post 5.1a should've fixed the problem.

        Solution

Install the Premiere 5.1a, which is available on Adobe's Web site at www.adobe.com/support/downloads/prwin.htm

BTW are you getting this from the adobe forum?

        Regards,
        Elie

If you had even bothered to check
the link I provided---here it is
again: http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/1b896.htm --you would realize ADOBE THEMSELVES have admitted to the problem of video files VANISHING from the hard drive mysteriously. Problem is... Adobe Premiere users by the DOZENS are reporting that EVEN AFTER INSTALLATION OF THE 5.1A PATCH they are still losing files to this bug.

No... I am not a Ulead employee.

In addition, I would call your attention to the most recent post on this topic by a fellow who just posted to the DV Mailing List that his extensive video trials have revealed that even with installation of the 5.1a patch... files are still disappearing.

He believes it happens when a project exceeds 50 minutes in length.

His post is one of many about this problem to the DV Mailing List.

There's also a very long thread about it on the Canopus DV Raptor forum. Like I said earlier... this problem is being experienced by a significant number of Premiere users.

I'm glad you're not one of the unlucky ones.

            Again... these complaints are coming
from Adobe Premiere users who have
            INSTALLED THE 5.1A PATCH.

This is a very serious issue!

If you would take the time to read and
see the long thread about it on the
Canopus DV Raptor forum, you would realize
            this is not minor.

Here is the link to the Canopus DV Raptor
              forum:
              http://www.canopuscorp.com/bforum/dvraptor/bforum.mv

Look for the thread "Premiere Disappearing Files."

Plus, subscribe to the DV Mailing List http://www.computervice.com/dv-l/index.html

If you subscribe to the DV Mailing List...
you'll receive as many e-mails as I do from Adobe Premiere users who are RED HOT ANGRY about this serious problem... as they're losing video files without explanation... and they're having to recapture.

Again... there's no agenda here on my part... and if this problem ever happens with my Ulead MediaStudio Pro software--I'll be the first to scream about it. Luckily, MediaStudio Pro is not plagued with this.
