  • Blech! Q3Demo is all broken....

    Aurgh.
I got a whole whack of wierdness.
TurboGL won't initialize, just dumps me back to my desktop in the superbright 640x480 we all know and love. Sigh. Can't believe how dependend I am on it =) 40fps just aint playable any more.
Other than that, in Q3Tourney, i see all these slightly transparent green planes that disappear when i walk through them up the stairs near the lower centre rocket launcher room. On the jumppad/space level, there are some wierd anomolies too. Underneath the shotguns on either side of the upper platforms there is a square of wierdlooking texture that seems to be too bright.
Gotta get to class now, but if no one figure out a solution by the time i get back, i'm gonna de-overclock my G400 to make sure thats not the problem (wasn't in q3test 1.08, but ya never know) then try and figure it out some more.

Just remove the TurboGL .dll file in the Q3 directory. For some reason, TurboGL doesn't want to work with the new demo.

Id has publically stated that they don't support anykind of MiniGL drivers which Matrox TurboGL happens to be. So, if someone has to fix something, it's Matrox.

TurboGL does work, but there seem to be problems with certain configured display modes when launching Q3.

800x600x32 w/ 32 bits textures works fine (at least for me and some others), but in order to configure this mode you must initially use the full OpenGL ICD:

        - rename OpenGL32.DLL (TurboGL) from the Q3 directory
        - launch Q3
        - configure 800x600x32
        - exit Q3
        - rename the TurboGL DLL back to OpenGL32.DLL
        - make a backup of your q3config.cfg (so you'll have a 'Safe Mode' TurboGL config)

From within Q3 you can choose any resolution you like and it will work fine with TurboGL. Just remember to change it back to 800x32 before exiting or you may not be able to launch Q3 again using TurboGL.

So is that a TurboGL Issue???? Looks like it is.

Does anybody have any FPS numbers to tell if the turboGL is actually working???

I used the disable-turbogl-set-rez-to-800x600-renable-turblgl work around. To
compare ICDs I did a timedemo of demo001 with all game options on execpt vsync
and all HQ options on except bilinear filtering plus added max texture detail.
If I remember correctly, normal ICD was 31 FPS and Turbo was 51 FPS.

I too had that same 'popped back to windows 640x480 super-bright' garbage. It turned out to be my miniport drivers for my Asus K7M Athlon motherboard. You don't happen to have a VIA based motherboard, do you? Try that. It worked for me.
