  • iMac DV Compatibility

It would seem to me that the new iMac DV would have the same firewire ports as on the G3/G4 systems. Has anyone encountered any compatibility issues with these and various DV cams?

The iMac is not currently offered with
    Firewire ports.

However, that is changing. There will be
three new tiers of iMacs offered very soon
and the more expensive ones will have
    Firewire ports.

In typical Apple fashion, however, I
doubt the good ones will be affordable.

      How's $1499 sound? http://store.apple.com.

Okay so today they're being offered for the first time. Still, the price you've
quoted $1,499 is not "affordable" when
you consider a DV Raptor with decent
software can be matched up with a PC
        for far less money.

Until Apple gets serious about lowering
prices... they're going to continue to
        have that insignificant market share.

        Right now... it's about 90% Windows (95, 98, NT) vs. 10% Apple.

And Apple's share one year ago was less than
        5%.

That means the 5% market share gain came from people who like the iMac because of its... you guessed it... colors.

These aren't exactly creative content professionals.

          Another problem with Apple:

The new G4 is already causing the
G3 Final Cut Pro owners to buy brand
          new software:

          This is amazing:

"Final Cut Pro 1.0 and Final Cut
          Pro 1.01 are **not** compatible
          with Power Mac G4."

But supposedly... Apple has a free update
          pending.
