  • UT kinda slow for so-called Direct3D Champ!

Smooth at 1024x768 16bit world: high, bots: medium (but ugly textures compare to that on voodoo)
But if I turn to 32 bit (textures sweet as jennifer lopez) it becomes unplayable,, even in 800x600 !!

    celeron 500 oc' to 607
    96 ram
    g400 oc' to 160/160/160
    latest drivers

You have a relatively small amount of RAM to be having aspirations of having champ performance.

Yes, UT is one very RAM-hungry game.

      Also, is the G400 a 16MB version?

One more thing, isn't 160/160/160 downclocking the RAM?

OH! I just noticed that you have your memory set the same as your core, do you realize that memory speed has a larger impact than core speed does on a G400??? You should maybe rethink your settings.

go to the advanced options of UT (enter 'preferences' in the console) and increase the game engine cahce settings !!!

It's defaulted to 4MB, but should have at least half of your system RAM.

          Hope this helps ...

You just have no clue about overclocking!!
Mostly the clock of the chip infects the game speed!! Not the ram speed!!
Try to benchmark q2 pr q3 with this settings :
            165/165/165
            and 150/200/150 !!
and tell what is better !!

                Poor, poor, Brody.

Be careful whom you tell has no clue about overclocking. Lots of people were going to help you out here, but now I'd rather watch this thread sink to the bottom.

It probably won't though. However, I'm not going to be the first to flame you. I might stop by to check on yo' crispy ass later, though.

Yeah, Brody, you're right I have absolutely no clue about overclocking Matrox hardware, and there is nothing I can do for you, since you know it all you just go do whatever you think is right

try it, and then talk that stupid crap!
                      q2 167/167 - 72 fps
                      q2 159/199 - 71 fps
                      q2 150/200 - 69 fps

and another thing, some of you are childish fegets!

Hey,Brody, my new friend, why not try benchmarking Q3/UT in 32bit mode at about 800, and give me yer results.

try it, and then talk that stupid crap!
                          q2 167/167 - 72 fps
                          q2 159/199 - 71 fps
                          q2 150/200 - 69 fps
1 or 2 fps difference is not gaining anything, sorry, there is no benefit to what you are doing there. If you want to get your card running faster, you sure aren't gonna get help with this kind of attitude. The fact is, you will gain much more by bumping your memory back up into proportion, believe me, I know, kjliew (the author of MGA Tweak) will tell you the same thing.

                          Rags

PS I can get a 1-2 fps difference on several different runs on Q2.

                            I just can't stand it.

Brody, this place is just crawling with Matrox's beta testers, tech support personnel, people who wrote popular shareware programs (at least one of which you're currently using), and any number of people who have been using Matrox products for years.

I don't see a single Matrox newbie on this thread, with the possible exception of the original poster. At least two beta testers have responded, and you practically insulted one of them. You've gotten a bit of a poke in the ribs from one moderator. (There are more of them, by the way. Some are perfectly willing to give you a lecture on manners.)

Now, if I were you, I'd apologize and insist was drunk.

                            Paul
