  • Trouble running UT with TurboGL

    I'm running the 5.41 PowerDesk and I've installed the newest TurboGL that is supposed to support Unreal Tournament. When I switch to OpenGL in the UT startup, the intro movie plays just fine, but the menu screen comes up as a bunch of white text characters on a black background with normal sound. Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks for any assistance!

    Have you tried running the game in D3D? Almost nobody uses OGL for UT -- it just isn't worth the trouble trying to get it to work. It runs just fine in D3D.

            Oh, it runs great in D3D, I just wanted to see if the TurboGL did anything better.

              Hi DrFizix,

              copy the following lines to your OpenGLDrv.ini located inthe system folder of UT ...

              [Matrox Graphics Inc./Matrox G400]
              MinLogTextureSize=0
              MaxLogTextureSize=11
              MaxLogUOverV=11
              MaxLogVOverU=11
              UseZTrick=0
              UseMultiTexture=1
              UsePalette=0
              DoPrecache=1
              ShareLists=1
              AlwaysMipmap=1

              [Matrox Graphics Inc./Matrox TurboGL for G400]
              MinLogTextureSize=0
              MaxLogTextureSize=11
              MaxLogUOverV=11
              MaxLogVOverU=11
              UseZTrick=0
              UseMultiTexture=1
              UsePalette=0
              DoPrecache=1
              ShareLists=1
              AlwaysMipmap=1

              ...

              That let's you fine tune your G400 OGL settings so that you could either squeeze out more FPS or more quality.
              In each first line of those entries, you'll find the description whether it's for the ICD or TGL.

              Also goto adv. options (type 'preferences' into the console, goto Rendering > OpenGL Support > DescFlags and set to '1' ...

                Thanks Maggi, I'll give that a shot. I think I saw one of your posts in another thread that recommended setting the cache size for the Unreal engine (in adv. options) to half the amount of your physical RAM. Do you find that this increases performance substantially?

                  Hi DrFizix,

                  increasing the cache size increases also the precaching time, but afaik there is no more loading within the game, i.e. I didn't have anymore stalls while playing which as formerly caused by loading textures or whatever accessed that HD.

                  Btw, those 'Log' entries determine the actual size of textures to be used in binary numbers ... in this case 2^11=2048 amd 2^0=1, meaning texture sizes vary from 1x1 pixels up to 2048x2048 pixels if there are any and setting the MAX values to '8' (2^8=256) gives you an idea about what the VooDoo are restricted to (texturewise)

                  ------------------
                  Cheers,
                  Maggi
