I think there was a Dx uninstaller floating around the net, but not sure if itīs any good.

You can do it the hard way. Look at the follwing files:

Sorry, just cut and pasted from Dxdiag. Print this or something and then boot in plain DOS, go to \windows\system and delete all the files listed here. Reboot, let windows start and it will panic or something because it canīt find the dx files. Ignore it and then install Dx 7.0, 6.1 (the previous version that worked fine for you). Restart again and all will be fine.

This SHOULD work. I tried it once (going back from Dx 6.0 to 5.0) and it worked. Oh well, give it a try, it surely is better than format and install everything all over. I HATE to do a format and install - itīs a day lost with all the stuff I got.

Disk formatting is done on a volume basis. This means that you could limit your format to your "C drive" but you need to understand the ramifications. You don't need to reformat unless you messed up you're file system, e.g. corruption of FAT entries. Many people seem to reinstall Windows and optionally reformat their boot drive rather then take the time to try and untangle the mess they've gotten into. There are system tools such as System File Checker that can help identify incorrect system files. Sometime simply reinstalling Windows will rectify the problem without destroying you're current installation. The approach you take depends on when you did you're last backup, what value you place on the data and customization present on the volume, and you're skill level in diagnosing and fixing the problem.
I didn't have any problem upgrading DX7 to 7a and also haven't noticed any functional difference in my setup. Did you install DX7a per instructions? Any error messages during install? during reboot? Any error messages on your apps that you could pursue? Start with the simple apps and work you're way up.

seven, I believe you just need to edit the timeout value in the boot.ini file in the root of your boot drive. I dual boot with NT4 and I can't recall if this file was only used with the NT boot manager or not. You should look at the system tools that are available to you. System Info has a tools menu that lists several utilities that can help. System Configuration Utility may help by allowing you to run in diagnostic mode or enabling the start menu in the advanced settings. Check the on-line help for info on the tools and troubleshooters. I once had a problem with an earlier version of DirectX and I corrected it by writing a batch file that extracted the pertinent files from the Windows media.

Are you running PD 4.51 or an earlier version. I had heaps of probs with DX 7 and PD 5.30. Everything came right after installing PD 5.41 and DX 7.0 (Re-install).

Just an idea if you havn't already eliminated it.
