  • UT v4.02 FPS compare w/G400 vanilla

    Have I hit the maximum frame rate for the G400 vanilla?

    Test done on the following system:
    Athlon 500 @ 755 (1/3)
    Asus K7M motherboard
    64 RAM
    G400 32meg DH vanilla oc'ed 160/200 (401 2.5/2.0/2.5)
    Drivers & BIOS: PD 5.41 & 1.5-22
    AGP aperature 64 (get better load time at 64 than 256 with no performance inrease or decrease)
    AGP 2x
    Fujitsu 6.4 gig UDMA 33 (really need to upgrade this)
    DirectX 7.0a

    I did a few tests in the Coret Facility with:
    Direct 3D (will do TurboGL some other time)
    High textures
    High detail skins
    32-bit colour
    No bots

    The following frame rates stayed almost EXACTLY CONSTANT throughout the whole map.
    While walking around the whole map I got the following frame rates:
    320x200 = 88.05 fps
    640x480 = 88.05 fps
    800x600 = 88.05 fps
    1024x768 = 78.54
    1240x960 = 63.86 fps
    1240x1024 = 63.86 fps
    (the frame rate never went 2 fps below the fps above,)

    The frame rate was no different between 32bit and 16bit colour

    What surprised me was that anything below 800x600 didn't improve the frame rate at all.

    I wonder...have I hit the MAX OUTPUT of the G400 Vanilla?

    Just one last thing, DAMN I love the image quality of this card compared to my friends Voodoo 3

    Feedback would be great! !

    You could be hitting the games max at those lower resolutions, but more likely you are hitting your refresh rate. All of those numbers happen to be just lower than one might have the refreshes set to for those various resolutions....
    88.05~90/95Hz
    78.54~80/85Hz
    63.86~65/70Hz
    Is your vysynch disabled?

      I get about the same framerates on my G400 Vanilla with a P3-450 @ 504Mhz, all great until you get some action, and add some bots or host a game, then the framerate drops to 30fps during combat, if alot of people start shooting in the same room it even goes down to 24fps, and when you enable 16 bots in DM-Morbias my fps will sometimes drop to 14fps.
      My lowest average score is about 20Fps wich isn't that bad, but I would sure like 45 better.
      I tried playing with a details turned off the other night and i did not only increase the frames per seconds, but also the frags per hour

      How about posting your average fps on your athlon/g400 after playing DM-Morbias with 16 bots, I would really like to know.

        HOLY CRAP
        THX Kruzin

        I cranked my refresh rate at 800x600 from 85hz to 100hz and now instead of 85.05 fps I now get 100.76
        Damnit you da man

        I never even knew that this affected the famre rate. Got a lot to learn I guess.

        Oh ya if only the OpenGL of UT was better
        Because with it I can get easily in the 100-150 fps only the loading is crap

          Damnit I am so stupid....

          Vsynch was ENABLED grrrr

          now my AVERAGE frame rates are AROUND 150 FPS with it disabled ! ! !

          Kruzin I don't think I have to push my monitors refresh rate up any more Damn I am stupid to not notice that Vsynch was enabled (just reformatted my hard drive last week)

          gotta love this G400
