  • Looks like Glide might become a free for all :)

Just got this off the www.voodooextreme.com/reverend site, looks like glide might become non-propriatary. um matrox can you add glide support and DX7 support into the new upcoming drivers hehe

    "Major 3dfx GLIDE announcement soon
There will be a press conference call [which, because of where I live, I am unable to participate in...cost would be too prohibitive :-( ] come Monday, 6 Dec to discuss a "major announcement" about 3dfx's proprietary GLiDe programming language i.e. API. I'll report info on this as soon as I can lay my grubby hands on them. For now, speculate all you want what this will be about."

    What do you guys think?

Why do I get the feeling that if people whine about it long enough, Matrox will implement it. What are the whiners batting? 1.000? It just can't be a coincidence.

I'm about to take the soap box, so I better move there.

I was not whining about it, I just thought it was an interested piece of news Just thought it would be neat to add another new feature

Oh, I wasn't saying you were whining! Sorry to give you that impression. I was just commenting on a long term theory I've had about Matrox's increasingly fine support.

And it *would* be a neat solution. Certainly, the Tribes problem would go away. Unreal Tournament is already a monster with D3D on the G400 Max and a fast processor. I get chills thinking about it with Glide support.

        Best wishes.

Dont hope to much though... you know how long it was before they got those damn OGL drivers to work somewhat good... and now this... it will probably be in one version of PD, and then they will get it to work properly about 5 or 6 versions later, dont you think?

          IMHO...

The "neatest solution" would be to get rid of the "TURBO" miniplug and get some opti Drives.

other than that I feel that matrox is doing a fine job regards Matt {:O)

What a "novel" idea! A "real" OpenGL ICD, that actually works? PLEASE don't do that to me right now! I can't afford all the nice software and games I'd then be able to run. As for Glide!?! Well I can take it or leave it. My second system has a V3 and I prefer the image quality of the Matrox card. Besides D3D is becoming more mature. There was a time when you needed and "optimised" API like Glide to get decent frame rates, but that is no longer the case.

If Matrox could please get a set of DX7 drivers and a full OGL ICD optimized, I would be "sittin in the cat-bird's seat."
