  • Quake 2 and overclocking

I have just overclocked my PIII 450 to 500mhz
    Now Q2 wont load?
No problems if I dont overclock the CPU, game runs fine.

    Abit BE6
    PIII 450@500Mhz

    Anyone had this problem?

Ok here is some more info:
    Bios settings:
    Ext Clock 112MHz (1/3)
    Multiplier x4.5
    Sel100/66 Signal High
    AGPCLK 2/3
    L2 Cache Default
    Speed Error Disabled
    Core Voltage 2.0

    128MB SDRAM
    Quantum Fireball 13.6 GiG KA
    SBLive Liveware 3.0
    Matrox G400 Max O/C 10%
    Toshiba DVD

No problems with HL,UT,Expendable,Q3 etc just
    carnt load Q1 or Q2????

But everything works when I dont O/C
    Whats going on???

Check in the bios if the AGP divisor is 2/3

Pred, maybe you need extra cooling. You may want to try running with case lid off and an external table top fan blowing in or something.

Scytale, he edited the post to give us the specs

Predator: up the volts. Give it 2.05 or 2.1 and see what it does...

              Sorted guys )
              Thanks for all your help!
All I had to do was up the voltage to 2.05v
              Ta for the tip Nuno.

              Another question for you all!
Can you disable V sycn on the G400?
Is it the same thing as FlipOnVBlank on Matrox Tweak Util? What does it do?

Here are some bench mark scores im getting on my system now, Are they any good? Let me know what you think guys please.

              Q2 Crusher Demo ( dm2)
              1152*864
              42FPS

              Expendable:
              1024*768*32
              Total time 162 seconds
              Game Frames 4372
              Lowest FPS 14
              Higest FPS 43
              Average FPS 27

              Unreal Torny ( Demo)
              1024*768*32
              35 FPS Average.

BTW I have 2 extra fans in the system, One pulling cool air in. One sucking hot air out.

              Temp:
              Cable 38.00
System 24.00 After running PC for over an hour.

Always glad to help a fellow overclocker

But be sure that the system is stable - if possible install linux and try to compile a kernel. Best system stability test, if you ask me. I have a celery 300a @ 450 and used to run it at 2.1v. It seemed completely stable - 24h in a row running unreal timedemo in software mode. I tried linux and it gave me all sort of strange errors. Somebody told me that maybe the cpu wasn´t stable enough and and bumped up the voltage to 2.2v and... presto!

That´s just because PIII450 use to be excellent overclockers, and it was kind of bad luck to get a chip that need more than default voltage to do 500...

Yes, Vsynch is the same thing as FlipOnVBlank. You can also disable it with the PD 5.0 registry hacks: http://www.murc.ws/Utils/PD5RegHacks.zip
