  • No Game runs with OpenGL and G400 (PII)

    Can anyone help me??

Where to find the TurboGl does it work with PII?
I upgraded the matrox bios, formated my HD, installed Win98SE and the new matrox driver vers. 5.30.007., Q3 and Q3Tweak 1050, tryed to run Q3 and it doesn't work. PowerGl doesn't work easer because of no Athlon nor PIII installed. Changed the .cfg to 800*600 32 but it will not work. In 640*480 the colores are washed out. Withe the old G400icd.dll Version 5.13 the system crashes, withe new from 5.30.007 the monitor turns grey. After (<Strg>, <Alt> and <delete> the Q3 screen turns up again and says

    ...initializing QGL
    ...calling LoadLibrary( 'C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\opengl32.dll' ): succeeded
    ...setting mode 4: 800 600 FS
    ...using colorsbits of 32
    ...calling CDS: ok
    ...created window@0,0 (800x600)
    Initializing OpenGL driver
    ----- CL_Shutdown -----
    RE_Shutdown( 1 )
    Shutting down OpenGL subsystem

Direct 3D runs fine but Games with OpenGl allway crush. The old G400icd works with "unreal" 1 f per minute great!!

The old system with VoodoII worked. No the fresh formated and new installed hangs with GL

Anyone any Idea what to do

    Greatings Hoolie

The TurboGL doesn't support anything but P3's and Athlon's (yet- may or may not change in the future). DON'T use OpenGL mode for Unreal or Unreal Tournament anyway. Those are Glide based (originally) based games that have had their engine rewritten to support OpenGL/D3D. The OpenGL optimization was dropped because the D3D came along much faster/better. Use D3D for them with the Matrox.

If you had a V2 in THIS system prior to installing this stuff (and didn't format the hard drive afterwards/manually deleted all references to the 3DFX drivers), you should make absolutely sure that such references are gone, along with any driver files for the card.

A biggy for the latest Q3DemoTest (oxymoron?)- DO NOT USE Q3TWEAK! It causes problems for people that attempt to use it. The ICD included with the 5.30 PowerDesk runs this game acceptably (assuming everything got installed properly and nothing has been corrupted).

If none of these work for you, hopefully one of the other regulars here will point out some of the installation/IRQ/bios change things to look out for with a G400Max. Or, you could find them for yourself, just search this forum and the Matrox Hardware forum for "IRQ", "bios", etc. to find some of them.

This card rulez when you get it running right, so good luck!

yes, the same problem as Hoolie.
When starting Q2, forsaken, q3, I'm always getting error messages like "voodoo 2 card expected, quitting"
My prior card was indeed a voodoo2.

Ace, so you mean that i have to clean the registry, by searching it for voodoo2 references, and delete them?

      whis me luck.

delete/rename the OpenGL32.dll in your games folders ...
