  • ? about G400 and AMD uP's

No problems here. Just do NOT use the PD 5.30 drivers. Use 5.25 or below. The only advantage of the 5.30 is that they give you the Open GL ICD for Quake, but only for PIII's and K7's. Since you don't have either, stick with the 5.25's. I'm still using the 5.11's that came with the G400 and see no reason to change yet with the games I have.

The only other "problem" I've had is that my network card has to be a higher IRQ than my modem and sound card. And the only easy way to do this is to make sure the NIC is the closest card to the G400. If there is a card between them, it might cause problems. This puts the NIC on IRQ11 along with the G400, but this has not caused any problems.

A tip: if you have enough slots, leave the slot next to the G400 open but remove the slot cover. Your fan will then draw air in from the slot and keep your G400 running cooler. You might also want to leave slot two free, so that if you get a NIC or some other fussy card later, you can put it in two and still keep slot one open to cool the g400.

Is anyone here using a G400 with and AMD K6-2 or K6-3 chip and the VIA chipset? Anyone care to comment on the reliability?

      Hi,

I run a AMD K6-2 400 with a G400, and don't have any problems. I have the FIC VA-503+ m/b as well. See the sig for a full list of hardware.

      Cheers,

      Richie

        Richie,

You should buy some sound cards.

        JerryH,

No problems with a G400 32 SH and K6-3 here, running the AGP bus at 75MHz as well with a 112MHz bus. SOYO 5EH5 MVP3, 128MB sdram.
