  • Problems with Q2 and HL ---> OpenGL???

    I can't run Q2 nor Half-Life on my PII400
I installed the new 5.30 and I know I can't use the TurboGL ICD, but the curious thing is that from the Q2 console it seems my PII can't initialize the OpenGL driver. Ok, maybe a driver overlap, so I went and checked that Q3Arena works perfectly well. I previously had a voodoo2 but I uninstalled it. No opengl32.dll files around. I finally tried Unreal and even this doesn't work. I assume this should be a openGL problem but if so, why does Q3 works??????

delete the config.cfg file in yoru quale2/baseq2 folder, remove your opengl32 in the games folder and start the game again.

Was Quake 2 installed before you put in the Matrox? I assume Q3 was installed after...
Try deleting config.cfg from the baseq2 folder and run the game again. You have the latest 3.20?

            Hi MiToBo.

Make sure there are no glide2x.dll or glide3x.dll files in your system ... if you still have some, delete 'em and reboot.

But maybe Zwisch's <FONT SIZE=1>(actually quite hard to pronounce that "sch's" ...)<FONT SIZE> advice helps you out.

If you start the game in compatibility mode then exit and change your video option to default OpenGL does it work?

Does reinstalling the game give out the same issue. May take you a couple of minutes...

                        even reinstalling Q2 was unseccessful.

But I'm quite sure the problem is with openGL. Do I have to install the driver with the setup program or do I have to do it with Windoze driver update?

And primarily does anybody knows how to uninstall driver? I mean not only matrox but even diamond, no uninstalling feature, nowhere!

Okeee, as I supposed the problem was with Driver installation.

After I used uninstal from matrox I didn't reinstall a standar VGAcard. If the driver setup program can't find it it just pretend to install the files while it doesn't!!!

After I installed the standar VGA card I finally achieved to install the G400 driver...phew!!

So the drivers are now installed. Problem still there? What about in safe mode what do you have listed in your device manager under display adapters and monitor?

ops! I forgot to write that now everything is fine and every OpenGL game works. As a matter of fact it was a problem with driver installation.

                              Tnx to everybody!
