  • TurboGL???

What's up with TurboGL? I've got a G400 on Monday, and haven't had any luck to get TurboGL to work. I'm running a PIII 450 with 128mb RAM. I took out my Voodoo2, reinstalled my PC from scratch, with no luck. When I try to use the TurboGL in Half-Life or Quake 3, all it does is freeze my PC. What am I doing wrong? Is there any other things I need to do to get this thing up and running...

Have you tried renaming your q3config.cfg in the demoq3 folder? If not, rename it or copy it to your desktop (I would delete it) and try starting the game again.

It worked. I deleted the config file, ran Quake3 and voila! I'm getting about +/- 20fps more with the TurboGL driver. I used the same principle with Half-Life, and that worked too!

      Thanks JAZZ

        Have a similar problem too...
Whenever I run Q3 Test with TurboGL installed
        I get a flashing grey-white screen instead
of game graphics... however, the game isn't
hanged because I can type console commands
(without seeing anything, of course) and
I can hear menu sounds as I press cursor arrows keys...If I remove TurboGL driver everything works fine again... ;(

        Tried :
        Powerdesk clean install
        W98 SE clean install
        September 10, OGL Beta ICD
Quake3 reinstall (in a different folder)
Deleted every cfg file from demo folder

        HW/SW :
        Athlon 500 + Asus K7M + 128MB + G400 32MB DH
        Powerdesk 5.30
        Windows 98 SE
        Quake3 1.08

        please help
        thanks in advance.

          Hi Raistlin,

Do other games have the same problem or is the problem only with Quake 3? Just want to know if the TurboGL is having problems with your system or the game itself.

            Jazz,

I've just installed Halflife to try TurboGL
and got very similar results as with Q3.
When I run Halflife I can get to the menu
but when I launch a game the only graphics
I get is a black screen with the flashing word "Loading" and, again, no game graphics kicks in although I can hear it's sounds and the game is not hanged ;(

Could it be a problem with TGL and Athlon?

I forgot to mention in my last post, I also
run SBLive (with Liveware 2.1) and an Adaptec AHA2940UW2. Halflife version was : Build 742 November 5 1998

            byes!

              Hi,

I must admit I'm not too familiar with the Athlon just yet but I believe you need the following :
              VIA 3 in 1 patch (www.via.com.tw)
AMD AGP patch for the nothrbridge

              J

The VIA patch is not on their web site. It can be found on your CD. The AGp patch form AMD can be found on AMD's site under support and downloads.

Ufs... I think I now can have some sleep
I wonder what the hell does this TGL to do a boost of 15-20 fps in Q3? the new athlon/p3 instructions I guess... anyway what matters is that it worth the pain...

                            Thank you again

                              You're right Raistlin.
The TurboGL does accelerate the "triangle setup" process by using Intel's (SSE) and AMD's (3DNow!) SIMD instructions (Single Instruction Multiple Data).
