  • G400 and Quake 3 and alt-tab strangeness

Everytime I alt-tab out of Quake 3 my desktop goes incredibly bright, loses most of its colors, and is completely unreadable...along with any other programs I happen to have running. Also...Quake 3 starts to strobe. It's all very annoying.

Is there any fix to this distrubing behavior?

My system does the same thing..AFAIK it is a bug within Q3, as I can alt-tab in other OGL games without problems. At least it's better than 1.07, which just locked up solid when I alt-tabbed
Only fix seems to be shutting down Q3 and restarting it.

This didn't happen on my previous video card, though. So I don't think it's a Q3 problem. Me thinks it's a Maxtor problem.

I have had this problem with some versions of the G400 PowerDesk drivers, but not with others. With only the 5.25 drivers installed, I can usually Alt-Tab back and forth from Q3 just fine. Even with the 5.25 ICD, it happens after repeatedly Alt-Tabbing (after doing it more than 5 times, as when communicating in ICQ to get someone else into the same game I'm playing).

When I install the beta ICD, it appears to do it EVERY time. I can live with this though, since the extra boost to the game's FPS allows me to keep everything turned all the way up for most maps.

Since you didn't specify which drivers you were using, I made the assumption that you were using the beta-ICD too. If so, and if Alt-Tabbing is really that important to you, try using the standard 5.25 ICD. Let me know if it helps, since I'm always interested in others' experiences.
