    Help! I'm getting proper stressed.

    Just bought nfs road challenge (aka nfs:hs) and keep getting :

    Exception caught!
    EXCEPTION_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION
    CS=00000137 DS=0000013F ES=0000013F FS=00000E9F
    GS=00000000
    EDI=00000000 ESI=00000000 EAX=00B8F444 EBX=00000000
    ECX=00000050 EDX=00000000
    Eip=6001318C Ebp=00B8F430 Esp=00B8F420 SS=0000013F

    works fine with software rendering but that's not why I bought the card.

    I have tried everything! (I think)
    run with -d3d0 switch
    checked card6 in registry
    re-installed everything
    but no fix as yet

    help!

    Spec:

    mill G200 8Mb SDRAM
    PB5.25 BIOS V2.6 DX6.1
    PIII 500Mhz 128Mb 100FSB
    no O/C'ed components

    Also I cannot get the G200 tech demo to work (black screen then dumps to desktop) or the Driver demo I downloaded today (no 3D device detected)

    oh woe is me

      This is usually a sign of no IRQ assigned to the card.

      Look in your device manager, and make sure it's using an IRQ, that there is nothing else (except an IRQ holder) on the IRQ, and that it is IRQ9 or higher.

        Checked that mate. Assigned IRQ in bios and in win95, besides shouldn't that throw up an error with powerdesk re. bus mastering?

          It could, since any busmastering device requires an IRQ...no IRQ = no busmastering (and no 3d).

          But since you have an IRQ assigned, that's obviously not the problem. Have you re-installed DirectX?

            Is the G200 an AGP card and if so, did you install USBSUPP.exe in your Win95 configuration??

            Get it from http://support.microsoft.com/support

            Then try again.

              Right, now I am really P155ED off!

              Downloaded that usbsupp.exe file (cheers jordan) but cannot install it 'cos I only have revision 950a of win95. Also, according to microsoft, it seems that the only way you can upgrade to revision b (OSR2) is to buy a new computer(!)

              does anyone know of anyway round this? Or am I just going to have to fork out for a copy of win98, and will that solve my problem!?!

              On the upside however, the driver demo has decided to work now - nice.

              A very annoyed Muffin indeed.

                Sorry, my fault as well, should have asked

                Goto http://support.microsoft.com/support...ads/LNP179.asp and start downloading the Win95 SP1 (ServicePack 1), which updates your Win95A to OSR2.1
