  • HEAVY GEAR II 1600x1200 True Color

    Hey guys this is strange I changed my monitor settings from Dell to standard monitor 1600x1200 now Heavy Gear II gives me this option of running the game at this resoultion. I dont have any other graphic options except the standard 1024x768 32bit then it jumps straight to 1600 x 1200 16bit or 32bit, STRANGE. The game looks mind boggling at this resolution and is totally playable with a P-II 400, 128MB, G400 Max, this res take away ALL jagged edges in the game it makes the color on the GEARS so much more pronounced. Anyone know the trick to this please let me know I know a lot of folks would love to play in this res, I can't see why Activision didnt include this res out of the box, probably concerned of people using it and getting poor frame rates. My MAX will not show viewable water in HG2 only in 16bit at 32bit water to clear to even see ( I hate this dont know how to fix it though) any suggestions greatly appreciated. Yes, I diod have this problem prior to switching monitor types and prior to this new res option. (I once again state you have to see this game at this res)
    (ITS AMAZING)!

    I did'nt know that Dell made a monitor that ran @1600x... HGII Has some bugs that should be addressed with a patch. Getting thrown out of campains is one.
    The trouble is that there might not be a patch for the game. The sales are way off on this title. And if you know Activision like I do,,,there is not much hope. What a shame that this game is sooo cool !!!

      here is the file you have to tweak..

      // Heavy Gear II Configuration file

      Far_Clipping_Plane 300 //in meters
      Detailled_Lighting_Effect 1 // 0 basic - 1 detailled

      Collision {
      Gear-Gear 1 // 0 basic - 1 detailled
      Bullet-Gear 1 // 0 basic - 1 detailled
      Bullet-Building 1 // 0 basic - 1 detailled
      }

      FullScreen-Mode 1
      BlitFill 0 // for voodo rush needs to be 1
      ScreenWidth 1024
      ScreenHeight 768
      ScreenBpp 32
      DisplayDriver 1

      Path {
      Objects Objects\
      Textures Textures\
      Missions Mission\
      Script Scripting\
      Audio Audio\
      Terrains Terrain\
      Ascii Objects\

      This will bring you to the desired screen resolution. I bet you have 1600X1200 in there.

      Ps I have no water showing up either. Its the Matrox cards drivers...

          Hey guys thanks for the reply and info, yeah my monitor is capable of doing 1600x1200 though only at 65HZ (which not bad if just playing games) not a res one would desire all the time, next res is 1280x1024 in 80HZ that's mostly what I keep my monitor at. That's interesting that there is no water in Heavy Gear II with 32bit, thought I was the only one getting that problem (STRANGE HUH). I'm going to try and go in there to modify it as you showed but then again I love it in that RES (1600x1200) minor slow downs but not as much as one would think. Yeah the MAX has been much more stable with the 5.21 drivers, here's games that work for me: Heavy gear II (though 32bit probs), Mechwarrior 3, WWII Fighters, European Air War, Rogue Squadron, Wargasm, Shogo, Quake II, NBA Drive 2000, NFL Fever 2000, MS Combat SIM, ones that I can't get to work our: Starseige (horrendous), NCAA Football 99 (won't switch higher res than 640x480, though it will on any TNT board, Incoming that is about all the ones I've encounted that have had problems. I would love to see the Heavy Gear II problem fixed, this game is awesome and desrves a fix. Matrox still has in my opinion a fair amount of tweaking to do with the G400, it has excellent potential, they need to get this stuff rectified, I wont even get into Open GL. Later!

            LAMFDTK,

            Where is that HGII config file located (was unable to find that anywhere?

            // Heavy Gear II Configuration file

            Far_Clipping_Plane 300 //in meters
            Detailled_Lighting_Effect 1 // 0 basic - 1 detailled

            Collision {
            Gear-Gear 1 // 0 basic - 1 detailled
            Bullet-Gear 1 // 0 basic - 1 detailled
            Bullet-Building 1 // 0 basic - 1 detailled
            }

            FullScreen-Mode 1
            BlitFill 0 // for voodo rush needs to be 1
            ScreenWidth 1024
            ScreenHeight 768
            ScreenBpp 32
            DisplayDriver 1

            Path {

            Audio Audio\
            Terrains Terrain\
            Ascii Objects\

            (WHERE CAN I FIND THIS INFO)?

            Thanks.

              Actually I just found the file here's a copy of mine:

              // Heavy Gear II Configuration file

              Far_Clipping_Plane 300 //in meters
              Detailled_Lighting_Effect 1 // 0 basic - 1 detailled

              Collision {
              Gear-Gear 0 // 0 basic - 1 detailled
              Bullet-Gear 1 // 0 basic - 1 detailled
              Bullet-Building 1 // 0 basic - 1 detailled
              }

              FullScreen-Mode 1
              BlitFill 0 // for voodo rush needs to be 1
              ScreenWidth 640
              ScreenHeight 480
              ScreenBpp 16
              DisplayDriver 1

              Path {
              Objects Objects\
              Textures Textures\
              Missions Mission\
              Script Scripting\
              Audio Audio\
              Terrains Terrain\
              Ascii Objects\
              }

              WEIRD THE GAME PLAYS IN 1600x1200 and even gives that to me as a selectable option in the game, yet here it shows the game being at 640x480 strange indeed said the gr****opper!
