Q3 G400 benchmarks: can you beat'em?

Just for fun I've been playing around with Q3 and doing a little benchmarking:

At 1024x768
Color Depth 32bit
Texture quality 32bit
Tex Detail: Max
trilinear filtering: on
high quality sound: on

Under game options: everything on including Vsync (my monitor refresh is at 110mhz)

demo1: 23.8
demo1: 26.4

with vsync disabled

demo1: 24.4
demo2: 27.7

Here's my system:

PIII 500@580
G400 o/c to 141/190
256MB Cas2 PC100
Sb Live! Value
Abit Be6
Seagate 9.1 GB 7200 RPM

I'm sure there are people out there with the G400Max and an overclocked PIII 550 or 600 that can beat me. Let's see'em.

V1.08 seems to be locked > no timedemo

The timedemo command has changed for 1.08 Type the following:

timedemo 1
demo q3demo1

or timedemo 1
demo q3demo2

That should work fine for you.

it keeps reporting the 'cheats are demolocked' or something similar ...

Any ideas ?
Maybe some startup option or script ?

Hey Maggi

Don't run the timedemo in a game server (even if you are running it). Start up Q3 and at the main screen pull down the console (I assume you know how to do that ). type in what allan1 told you and you should be good to go. Remember to pull down the console again after it is done running to see the fps count.

P.S. How do you make those neat little faces?

I get the same numbers on my C366 (not overclocked), and have the same options turned on. I haven't overclocked my card either. I was thinking of buying a P3 500 this week when the price drops, but if i see no significant sign of improvement as of this, then perhaps i wont upgrade. Can u tell me some other benchmark scores in any other games? I play Kingpin, Q3test 1.08, and Half Life/TFC/C Strkie. If someone can give me some advice on whether i should upgrade or not, please let me know. BTW...my mobo wont allow overclocking its set at either 66, 100 fpb. Its a SE440BX-2 by Intel. I would overclock my Celeron if i could and be happy with it but i cant...so thats why im leaning towards the P3 500....thanx in advance all.

For starters, the name is Allan not Allen. It's a minor thing but it's always misspelled. Secondly, I doubt you have all the same options I have turned on and are getting the same scores at least with a Celeron 366. Perhaps you should double check. Of course, if someone backs you up I'll have to assume somethings wrong with my G400

Well here is my scores and comments.

Demo1: 14,0
Demo2: 26,4

My system:

PIII 450@548 (pci bus at 31)
G400 o/c to 147/196
128MB Cas3 PC100 (Ram settings 3-3-3-10)

It seems as if Demo1 gets really trashed at the maximum texture quality. Since I have AGPx2 disabled i could probably get a better score if I could get AGPx2 to work!

If I use the 'Best Quality' setting and just ups the resolution to 1024 I get these scores

Demo1: 29,4
Demo2: 31,1

Much better.....

Or 'Best Quality' (at 800) and maximum texture quality.

Demo1: 26,6
Demo2: 36,3

I think I'll stick with one of these.....

Probably the results are not comparable, but I´m getting 21.6 fps (demo1) 31.1 fps (demo2) in q3test 1.06.

Fresh q3test 1.08 install setup exactly as Allan1 said to do it:

vsync is on for the hell of it...

demo1: 23.6 fps
demo2: 25.6 fps

Things that matter:

celeron 300a@464 (103 mhz bus - agp @ 2/3)
128M pc100 cas2 sdram
abit bx6-2
g400max (not oc'ed with 5.13 drivers)

(everything else should be trivial...)

Vysnc shouldn't matter with the 5.13 drivers since it's actually broken in the opengl ICD. As of right now there is no vsync using this opengl version as far as I know. I have been told that the upcoming ICD will have it in there though. (along with some speedup, woohoo!). Interesting numbers though, looks like processor power has nothing dramatically to do with better numbers with this setup in the end... This is by far unplayable by my standards.

Same setup as Alan1 only lets put color depth and texure quality at default. Let's also get rid of those nasty lens flares... they serve no purpose other than annoying me.

demo1: 33.5 fps
demo2: 34.7 fps

This is playable... not golden but sufficient. I'm willing to bet the faster cpu's will start to pull away from this setup here... Of course q3test is also probably a lousy benchmark tool too
