  • Quake II and lock ups.

    System Specs:
    PIII 600
    SBLive! with Liveware 2.1 Drivers
    MSI 6130Pro MB
    3Com 3C905-TX net card
    128MB Micron PC133 Ram
    G400 Retail o/c'd to 145/193. Usinf 5.20.xxx drivers

Just loaded Quake II for the first time in a year or so , played for about 10 then hard lock, system won't repsond to anything, rebooted, tried again, same thing. Ran Crusher benchmark, long long pause but no lockup. Seems if I play more then a few minutes the machine croaks. I run with the cover off and the motherboard monitor shows everything well below tolerances for the system. Any ideas? Checked device manager and everything is on it's own IRQ, and no conflicts. Disabled SB Emulation, I know I have done everything I can on my end to make sure the system is clean and running well. Any ideas? I used to not be much into the game, but my interest has been repeaked. Quake III also locks up alot even if I am running around one of the maps by myself.

Have you thoroughly tested the RAM? What about not OC'ing the video card?
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

The Ram is fine. I haven't tried setting the card back to default yet, nor have I tried the older drivers. Will try later today to see if those settings make any difference.

had the same problem the solution is to increase the AGP aperture size in the bios to 256mb and to force the G400 to work in AGP x1 mode (No noticable decrease in speed) do that with the Reg hack from MURC
