Well, The whole thing was I didn't want to give it away, Because I want to see what system specs beat my score. If anyone does beat this killer mark, Ill spill my guts.
This is in 16bit, so the 3dfx'ers can play, Im sure If I crank it to 1280x1024x32 I would have a killer chance to win =)

http://forums.gagames.com/forums/biggrin.gif LOL http://forums.gagames.com/forums/biggrin.gif

What about splitting it into categories like P3, P2, Celeries, K5, K6 and so on ?

That would be fair and your heavy weight CPU wouldn't compete with the feather weight class http://forums.gagames.com/forums/wink.gif

Let me guess, you have a PIII OC'ed till it smokes, right ?

HAH just wait until I get my MAX o/c inside my dual P3 581Mhz system...

AirGumby
8th August 1999, 15:37
hehe. You said it. "Wait"... that's the problem. Matrox's release of the G400 max is so so so small in supply it's very sad.

What motherboard you have that has a 129mhz fsb on a dual ?

I'll play.

System Spec:

Maggi's right up there - it's unfair comparing PII's to PII's to K6's to K7's to 386s.

Hey Zyn!
You're beaten. Now, what are your specs?

ok something is definalty up here. Ihave 32meg vanilla G400 dullhead
PIII 450 oc to 581
256 pc133 ram
Aopen AX6bc pro motherboard
10.1gig IBM harddrive 72000rpm

and i am only getting 2831 3dmarks on 3dmark99max. There is something defianlty up here, i mean even the a guy with a g200 is betting me!!
i only got the card yesterday, and have since installed the latest powerdesk drivers. Also the latest bios.

can someone please help me out here and give me some tips as to why the hell its going so damm slower, really my puter should be up their with 5560 people, oh yeah its not overclocked, but i dont think that it would make a 2000 score difference http://forums.gagames.com/forums/smile.gif

Zyn
9th August 1999, 13:29
Damn, Looks like I got 2 people who just took care of my ass...

These are soem odd results,
I see AirGumby had his Vsync off, Mine was on, I thought that didnt make any difference since triple buffering was on.
Looks like ill hafta overclock my g400 now, hehe..

specs,
p3 @ 600Mhz
128mb ram
g400max

Heres my spec sheet everyone's been waiting for, I tried those registry hacks from MURC but they didnt work, probably because of the fact that I messed around with the Matrox Monitor quite a bit.
Here ya go

I take it you folks are using Win98 and not NT? What might be some common things to look for if my scores are relatively low? Tried disabling vsync. Runnin G400 at 147 and P3 450 OC 600. Appreciate any feedback.

Zyn
10th August 1999, 13:58
Looks like Air and cpld006 both took my score to a beating, but those registry hacks had to be modified, and now they work, I also found out AirGumby was running Cas2, and I had not been, so, with those modifications, I ran 3dmark99max again, with feeling...

SAY IT... ZYN OWNZ!!!
Repeat after me.. 5811 1024x768x16 16bit Zbuffer triple buffering,

you dont believe me? http://bongo.as.arizona.edu/~kevin/4.jpg

anyone else up to the challenge ?

AirGumby
10th August 1999, 16:44
Well lets see. I hope you get more then me. I mean you are on a PIII-600mhz, I'm using a PIII-581mhz.. as for the CAS2 and CAS3. It wouldn't change your score that much..

Your CPU marks are like 500 more points then mine.. That's the score you should of gotten in the beginning.

AirGumby
10th August 1999, 16:49
Man......... This forum is crap. Why does it repeat like that.. It takes years for it to update.. pfffft!

(I'm deleting the repeats - sorry bud!)

Hi airgumby,
you can delete those multiple posts, if you want to, it is a new feature on the forums, and is courteous to others that read the thread.

Yeah, I got like 15 e-mails back saying AriGumby had replied to your post, I just thought you were really pissed.
I'm also having difficutly seeing how 600Mhz p3 is so much better then p3 at 581, I should run mine at 581, see if they are similar.
5811, not bad! hehe! =)
Air - yes, the ram does do cas2 at 133..
and try deleting those posts, its probably some damn I.E. thing.. eeuuww

I have an AMD K6-2 350(3D Now! enabled) Viper V770 TNT2 135/160, 128 mb PC-100 RAM, 83 hz monitor refresh rate, I run my desktop at 1024x768@32bpp. I have a 5400 rpm hard drive I believe...V Sync disabled, 3D Now! instructions enabled, triple buffering, 800x600@16bpp and I only get about 2,374 marks. I closed all programs in background. I don't think thats normal, I expected at least 3000 something. Someone help me here!

Well, good news and bad news. I yanked a Diamond Viper V770 from a machine at work (using latest detonator drivers 2.08), took it home and benchmarked it against the G400 (using Powerdesk 5.13.xxx at 1024X768 I recieved 6180 3Dmarks in 16-bit color, where as the G400 was only capable of 5701, not a big difference but still quite noticable as the benchmark ran. Now here is where the G400 kicks the TNT2's ass, These cards are both clocked the same G400 via MGA Tweak and Viper V770 via Powerstrip (latest version), both running at 146 core. In 32-bit color the TNT2 is much much slower then the G400, I got 4700 3DMarks on the G400 and the Viper barely squeezed out over 3000. Since 32bit color is the way to go in the future, the TNT2 just cannot compete even at 800X600 it lags way behind the G400. So I guess the TNT2 isn't all it's cracked up to be, or that Diamond is just a shitty version of a TNT2.
