  • flight sims and g400?

Anyone playing newer flight sims with the G400, preferably at 1024 or above? If so, can you please give your performance in each game, along with system specs?

I play Falcon 4 and WWII Fighters quite a bit, and currently have a V770. I'd like to replace it with a G400 or G400 Max, but would like some idea of what to expect.

The other game I play periodically is Halflife, and I've seen quite a bit of different experiences here with that game!

    thanks!

WWII runs well at 1024x768x32 3D Clouds on ~25FPS Average. (I havn't spent any time trying to tweak it and have set texture mem in the ini to 16Mb?)

Halflife is OK at 1024x768 but definately is not optimal - I have no problems with textures but frame rate drops pretty low at times (I had to to a fresh install of 98 before most games and benchmarks would even work)

Kingpin on the other hand runs extremely well at 1024x768.

    SYSTEM: PII-450, 256Mb, G400 32Mb SH.

yellowjacket- I also play alot of flight sim games, I play WW2 fighters everyday and run it at 1024x768x32 and I am getting 60 to 70 fps's with the clouds off. Personally I don't even like them that much but I am overclocking my G400(vanilla) to 205 memory 154 core and very stable and the image quality is awesome. I've yet to try F4 because I need to put the game back on my system but NFS, NFSHS,starwars E1,Racer,all look very good with this card. I built a system for a friend with a tnt2 card and was not impressed and I used to own a tnt card myself.I say go for it , buy the vanilla and OC it to max speeds. Good luck.

        Thanks, Kookstick!

You named some of the other games we play. My son loves Pod Racer, Star Wars, and Tomb Raider III.

Do you ever use Dual Head? I'm thinking of going ahead and getting the DH, even though I don't have a DVD player, just to output to a TV.

Yellowjacket- I have the dualhead and brought a second monitor home from work to try it with my 17". It's a really nice thing to have. I hear Q3 will support the DH (I din't play quake though)but the Microsoft version of WW2 fighters does and I hear you can have your map or gages on one screen and front view on the other. It's a matter of time before alot of games will take advantage of it. I use it for work and can run quickbooks on one screen and office 2000 on the other. It's nice and worth the price for the upgrade.Later
