  • Expendable G400 troubles

    Hi there,

Is anyone else experiencing a problem with the OEM version of Expendable which
    shipped with the G400 card.

I have installed Expendable several times and I can not get it to load the game.
When I hit the play button, the screen goes black and after about a second
or so, it returns to the windows desktop. If I change the resolution
settings to anything different after the initial start up(I.E. 640x480 16
    color), I get a DDER_OUTOFVIDEOMEMORY error.
My new card has 32Mb on board so it should be fine.

I haven't had any problems with other DirectX software as yet.

    My system:

    OS: Win95OSR2
    DirectX 6.1
    Celeron 366
    Abit BH6 motherboard
    128Mb
    Matrox G400 32M (driver version 5.13)
    Soundblaster PBC128

Thanks in advance for the help

    Martin

Have you tried running any other games, preferably intense 3D stuff? Half-Life, Quake, AVP, etc?
I'd like to make sure this isn't a general 3D problem. Narrowing it down to only Expendable would hopefully make things easier.

    Good luck,

I would try removing Tripple Buffering - I had this problem on non G400 versions very early on. I don't seem to get it now at all though...

"the OEM version of Expendable which shipped with the G400"

What? I always thought it was the retail version of expendable who shipped with the card!

the OEM version of expendable don't support Environmental Bump Mapping.

        Hmmmmm.....

Yes, I've tried it with several other DirectX games (NFSIII, Jedi Knight, Thief, Air Warrior, Panzer Commander), no problem. In fact, every facet of this card performs beautifully - except Expendable. Kind of ironic that the game that shipped with the card doesn't work for me

I have tried the triple buffering on and off. No difference.

By OEM, I meant the EMBM version of Expendable that came shipped with the card.

It's baffling, but I've read on some of the news groups that other people are also experiencing the same problem. Rage has said that it is a Matrox problem. I'm still waiting to hear back for Matrox.

            Thanks for all the responses!

Be sure to check the sound card selection in the SETTING portion of Expendable SETUP. I had the exact same problem when, for some reason, the sound card selection got reset to an invalid one.
